Hajj is not merely a journey; it is a lifelong aspiration and one of the five pillars of Islam. It is therefore understandable that the disappointment experienced by some prospective pilgrims during the 2026 Hajj season has generated considerable discussion within the Muslim community.
Traditionally, many Ghanaian Muslims have become accustomed to making substantial Hajj payments during the holy month of Ramadan. For years, Ramadan has served not only as a period of spiritual renewal but also as a time when many families finalize financial arrangements for the pilgrimage.
However, the 2026 Hajj season marked a significant departure from that tradition.
Unlike previous years, payment windows for Hajj opened approximately two months before Ramadan and, more importantly, closed before Ramadan commenced.
