The Ark of God Orphanage is an NGO that empowers orphans and the less privileged children through the provision of basic livelihood necessities such as food, shelter, clothing, health care, quality education and security.
This orphanage came as a result of the pressing nature and sorrowful situation most orphans, usually between the ages of 0 and 25years find themselves. They lack basic human nee
ds such as food, shelter, and clothing. To most of these children, even having access to basic formal education and health care is a luxury. They are prone almost always to the conditions of the weather since they have no shelter over their heads.
They do not enjoy love and affection which usually should have come from their external relatives because of the stigma that surrounds their status as orphans. This is due to a certain weird societal and superstitious belief that these children contributed in one way or the other to their parent’s death.
Henceforth, these children end up at a very tender ages struggling on daily basis to survive. Some of them have to beg all day long in order to have one meal; the more fortunate ones end up as hawkers by the streets endangering their lives running in-between the fast moving vehicles to make sales. They are constantly exposed to the gases and fumes from these vehicles which could destroy their lungs leaving them with chronic lung diseases mainly asthma and tuberculosis.
They are all the more exposed to their worst nightmare coincidentally during the nights. Because they have no homes, they pass the nights at lorry stations, car parks, on pavements, filling stations, and wherever they feel like spending the night. There have been reported cases of robbery, r**e, brutal beating, and worse of all ritual murders to these poor defenseless orphans.
Thus the orphanage seeks to inject life back to these less privileged through the provision of life’s basic needs listed above.
