Ghana wins!

Ghanaian company Ashanti Airlines, owned by two business moguls, has been selected as a strategic partner for Ghana's new national carrier.

Ghana has been struggling to revive its national carrier since the collapse of Ghana International Airlines in 2010. Before this, Ghana Airways also collapsed in 2004.

The selection of Ashanti Airlines is a major win for the aviation industry.

A tracker was installed on an eagle in Russia & allowed to go wild. The Eagle finally died 20yrs later in the Valley of the Child, Saudi Arabia.

Interestingly, in its 20 years sojourn, it avoided crossing the sea.

This map shows the movement of the eagle over a period of 20yrs and the distances it has traveled in many countries. The longest route was taken just to continue flying over land.

Many bird species spend their entire lives flying over the sea, but one thing is for sure and this eagle certainly avoided crossing the sea.

BRIEF HISTORY OF TAMALE AIRPORT

Tamale Airport was founded as a main advanced operational base for troops during World War II. The landing strip was acquired at Nyohini, some two miles west of Tamale in December, 1940.

The Government of the first republic of Ghana approved a plan to build a new international airport to serve the military eleven miles north of Tamale on realizing its strategic position/importance.

Although the project got off to a bright start, it was abandoned after the overthrow of the regime in 1966. However, work on the airport resumed with some modifications to accommodate civil operations.

Initially, the airport was manned by the Airforce, however, with time assistance was sought from GCAA to provide personnel for telecommunications and to take charge of the RFFS and also Air Traffic Services.
