Togo Grants Visa-Free Entry to All African Nationals

Togo's Ministry of Security announced on May 19, 2026, that the country has abolished visa requirements for citizens of all African countries for short stays of up to 30 days. The policy is explicitly aimed at strengthening African integration and promoting the free movement of people across the continent.

The decision took effect on Monday, May 18, 2026, and applies to all points of entry - land, air, and sea. Any African holding a valid national passport can now enter Togo without a Visa

However, travelers are still required to complete a travel declaration on the official government platform at least 24 hours before arrival in order to obtain a travel slip.

Security Minister Calixte Madjoulba described the move as part of "the dynamic of openness, modernization, and attractiveness" initiated by the President of the Council, with the ambition of making Togo a regional hub for services, business, culture, and human exchange at the heart of Africa.

With this decision, Togo becomes the sixth African country to allow visa-free entry for all holders of African passports, joining Rwanda, Ghana, Benin, The Gambia, and Seychelles.

The timing has been widely seen as reinforcing Togo's positioning as a more open and connected regional hub, ahead of hosting the Biashara Afrika 2026 trade summit in Lomé under the theme "Powering Africa's Economic Transformation through the AfCFTA.
