We would like to invite you to join hands with us for a community beach clean-up at the iconic Sunrise Corner spot in Gunjur. This is a beautiful area that we all love, but sadly a large amount of fishing waste—including nets—as well as plastics has washed up along the shoreline.
This clean-up is also in support of the important work being carried out by the Gunjur Conservationists & Ecotourism Association CETAG team, who are helping to clear and protect the area in preparation for the nesting season later this year.
Event details
Date: Saturday, 14 February 2026
Time: 09:00
Meeting point: Silvers Bar
Clean-up route: From Silvers Bar proceeding towards Santosha Bar (approximately 1.5 km of beach)
Along with our team we will be joined by Scouts from UK, Gunjur & Madina Salam, students from the weekend study program, members of the GP birding group together with CETAG & Precious Plastic Gambia, to support the clean-up. Plastic Solutions will also bring their tricycles to help remove collected waste from the beach.
We will separate and collect any recyclable plastics.
We would appreciate your presence—this is a day of love for Valentine’s Day, but also a day to show love for our Gunjur by caring for this amazing beach and protecting it for the community and future generations.
We believe so much can be achieved when we come together, and your support would mean a great deal.
We will provide rakes, gloves, and drinking water. If you have any additional tools (rakes, sacks, or gloves), feel free to bring them along.
Follow-up workshop (Sunday) On Sunday, we will host a hands-on workshop at the center for Precious Plastics Gambia to demonstrate how waste can be transformed into useful items. Everyone who joins the clean-up is warmly welcome to attend.
