The bastions with 𝐜𝐚𝐧𝐧𝐨𝐧𝐬 around Hydra’s port, once used for its defense, remain a testament to the island’s resilience.💣
In the 18th and 19th centuries, Hydra relied on these cannons to counter the superior Turkish fleet, though the Greek navy successfully protected the island, limiting their use. Today, visitors can admire the bastions flanking the port, along with the rusty chains that once blocked enemy vessels. Above the left bastion stands the statue of Admiral Andreas Miaoulis, a key figure in the Greek War of Independence. ⚔️

Here are the “𝐓𝐨𝐩 𝟕 𝐏𝐞𝐥𝐨𝐩𝐨𝐧𝐧𝐞𝐬𝐢𝐚𝐧 𝐀𝐥𝐜𝐨𝐡𝐨𝐥𝐢𝐜 𝐁𝐞𝐯𝐞𝐫𝐚𝐠𝐞𝐬”, for 2025, according to !🍷🍇

1) 𝘼𝙜𝙞𝙤𝙧𝙜𝙞𝙩𝙞𝙠𝙤: The most widely planted red grape variety in Greece, originates from Nemea—its most significant region—and is a versatile grape used in various styles and as a backbone in many Greek blends.
2) 𝙈𝙤𝙨𝙘𝙝𝙤𝙛𝙞𝙡𝙚𝙧𝙤: An aromatic and late-ripening Greek grape from Peloponnese, gained popularity in the 1970s and ’80s, thanks to producers from PDO Mantinia, the most important region for this high-yield yet sensitive variety.
3) 𝙈𝙖𝙣𝙩𝙞𝙣𝙞𝙖: A Greek designation on the eastern Peloponnese with a cool microclimate, produces light and aromatic white wines from the indigenous pink-skinned Moschofilero grape.
4) 𝙉𝙚𝙢𝙚𝙖: A Greek appellation in northeastern Peloponnese, produces varietal red wines from native Agiorgitiko grapes, offering styles from easy-drinking to full-bodied, with flavors of red and black berries, plums, and prunes, often enhanced by oak-aging with spicy hints of nutmeg and black pepper.
5) 𝙋𝙖𝙩𝙧𝙖𝙨: A wine-growing region in northern Peloponnese, is renowned for its aromatic, light-bodied white wines made from Roditis, an abundant pink-skinned grape also used in blending for the notable Retsina wine.
6) 𝙏𝙚𝙣𝙩𝙪𝙧𝙖: A traditional liqueur from Patras, is made by infusing brandy or rum with herbs and spices, typically featuring cinnamon, cloves, nutmeg, and citrus, resulting in an amber or dark-colored drink with warming spice and vanilla aromas and flavors.
7) 𝙆𝙞𝙙𝙤𝙣𝙞𝙩𝙨𝙖: A rare and ancient Greek grape nearly lost to extinction, was revived by Peloponnese producers who recognized its exceptional potential for crafting aromatic white wines with unique character.
