The 𝐌𝐞𝐧𝐚𝐥𝐨𝐧 𝐓𝐫𝐚𝐢𝐥 is a spectacular 75 km mountain route in the heart of the Peloponnese, winding through the Lousios Gorge, the slopes of Mount Menalo and the Gortynian mountains. Along the way, it connects 9 traditional Arcadian villages, including Stemnitsa, Dimitsana, Vytina and Lagkadia, showcasing the region’s rich nature, history and culture.🍂

Created by local volunteers and the community of Gortynia, the trail is designed to high European standards for a safe and authentic hiking experience. It is the first trail in Greece to receive the prestigious “Leading Quality Trail – Best of Europe” certification.✨

The Melagavi lighthouse, also known as 𝐇𝐞𝐫𝐚𝐢𝐨𝐧 𝐥𝐢𝐠𝐡𝐭𝐡𝐨𝐮𝐬𝐞, was built in 1897 on the Agrilaos peninsula, in the golf of Alkyonides Islands.

Melagavi is renowned to be one of the 10 most beautiful lighthouses in Greece and it is also one of the most photographed landmarks by travelers. If you find yourself in Loutraki, escape with a scenic 25-minute drive northwest, following the road toward Perachora and past the peaceful shores of Lake Vouliagmeni. Park at the end of the paved road near the Heraion ruins and take the short 5-minute walk up the rocky path.
You’ll arrive right at Melagavi Lighthouse just in time to catch the golden sun dipping into the Corinthian Gulf! 🌅✨

Perched above the historic center, the 𝐂𝐚𝐬𝐭𝐥𝐞 𝐨𝐟 𝐊𝐚𝐥𝐚𝐦𝐚𝐭𝐚 is a 13th century Frankish fortress expanded by Geoffrey I Villehardouin to secure dominance over the region. Built where ancient Homeric Fares once stood, the site previously housed a sixth century church dedicated to the Virgin Mary Kalomata, named after an icon with beautiful dark eyes that gave the city its name.
Over the centuries, this strategic stronghold endured frequent sieges, passing between Byzantine, Frankish, Venetian, and Ottoman control.
Today, remnants of its original defensive walls and refuge tower still stand guard over the city. Although a 1986 earthquake restricted access to internal ruins, walking the perimeter path offers breathtaking panoramic views of the historic center below. At the southern end, a small theater built in 1950 keeps history alive by hosting cultural events and live performances throughout the summer.✨

September brings a different kind of energy to the Peloponnese. 🍇🍂

As the summer heat begins to soften, the vineyards of Nemea, Mantinia, and Achaia enter 𝐡𝐚𝐫𝐯𝐞𝐬𝐭 𝐬𝐞𝐚𝐬𝐨𝐧. Grapes are carefully picked at their peak and taken to local wineries, where they begin their transformation into some of the region’s most celebrated wines.
Nemea is particularly famous for Agiorgitiko, one of Greece’s most important indigenous grape varieties, while the cooler highlands of Mantinia are known for Moschofilero.
For generations, the harvest has been more than agricultural work. It has been a seasonal celebration connecting people, land, and tradition.✨

Voidokilia is a legendary beach and one of the loveliest in the Mediterranean, with white sand and cool blue waters. It stands out on any map for its nearly perfect arch shape.

Voidokilia offers no amenities such as parasols and a beach bar. You reach the beach via a dirt road from Petrochori or a footpath from Divari through the Gialova Lagoon. The beach has had the same name since Homeric times and in his epic poems, the ancient chronicler refers to it as Voufrada (with “vouf” being the ancient word for “vodi,” which means ox in Greek; thus Voidokilia means ox belly and the beach is named such because of its rounded shape). This may well be the beach where Telemachus landed his ship when returning from Ithaca in search of information regarding the fate of Odysseus from the king of Pylos, Nestor.✨
