According to the Greek Law 710/77, guiding anywhere in Greece, on walking tours, moving vehicles, inside or outside sites, monuments, museums, churches of cultural heritage is prohibited by people who are not trained, examined and licensed by the Greek Ministry of Tourism and do not bear their official tourist guide badge. There is a penalty for that imposed by the Ministry of Tourism. Equally illegal is anybody who organises any kind of tour without a travel agency licence and its registration number on any webpage. All above mean: cheating and misinforming of the consumer-visitor of Greece, breaking the Greek Law, earning illegal money, avoiding taxation of the tour income, insurance and social security obligations. Don't be led astray and cheated in any way! Support the legal Greek economy and fully trust the Licensed Tourist Guides for your tours in Greece!

Ο Ιππόκαμπος της Μεσσηνίας

Αυτό το εξαιρετικά σπάνιο και αριστουργηματικό χάλκινο ειδώλιο κοσμεί το Αρχαιολογικό Μουσείο Μεσσηνίας στην Καλαμάτα. Βρέθηκε στα τέλη της δεκαετίας του ’50 από δύο αγρότες στα Ακοβίτικα της Μεσσηνίας οι οποίοι το παρέδωσαν στην Αρχαιολογική Υπηρεσία. Δέκα χρόνια αργότερα, στα πλαίσια αντιπλημμυρικών έργων του ποταμού Άρι, ανακάλυψαν ιερό αρχαϊκής εποχής αφιερωμένο στον θεό Ποσειδώνα, στον οποίο θα είχε αφιερωθεί ο ιππόκαμπος. Οι μυθικοί ιππόκαμποι που φέρουν τα δύο χαρακτηριστικά σύμβολα του θεού, θάλασσα και άλογο, ήταν τα δυνατά πλάσματα που έσερναν το άρμα του Ποσειδώνα.

Η αρχαία Μεσσήνη αποτελεί πρότυπο και λαμπρό παράδειγμα αναγέννησης μιας αρχαίας ελληνικής πόλης. Η εικόνα μιλάει από μόνη της και καταδεικνύει περίτρανα πως για να ξαναζωντανέψουν οι αρχαίες πόλεις πρέπει να αναστηλώνονται γενναία. Πάει περίπατο η μίζερη κρατικοδίαιτη αντίληψη πως δεν πρέπει τίποτε να αναστηλώνεται για να μην αλλοιώσει η παρουσία του καινούργιου υλικού την αίγλη του παλιού. Όλα αυτά βέβαια χάρη στις άοκνες προσπάθειες του λαμπρού αρχαιολόγου και οραματιστή Πέτρου Θέμελη.
