Werkzaamheden: gidsen van fietstours / hikes, organiseren van vakanties, updaten van social media, veel ruimte voor eigen ideeën en inbreng en contact leggen met (potentiële) klanten en partners.

Op de fiets naar alle hoogtepunten van de hoofdstad Argostoli en toffe hikes langs de mooiste stranden, bossen en in de bergen? Ben jij ondernemend en heb je originele ideeën voor een social media-campagne? Bij Alpha Cycling Holidays heb je die vrijheid en kun je jouw talenten verder ontwikkelen.

It has been a wonderful third season for .

As flights come to a hault this week, so do our tours, ending the season with our newest and most popular product: Taste & Bike Tour.

This is exactly the essence of what makes Alpha Cycling Holidays strong. We combine sustainability with culture, as we put emphasis on supporting the local market. After years of experience and during daily interaction with people, we are increasingly discovering what travelers in Kefalonia are looking for: freedom, doing activities that the locals also do, finding a balance between exploring and relaxing. For the entrepreneur this means listening carefully to what the wishes of the traveler are. So we designed our products to contribute to this.

Numbers speak. In 2024 Alpha Cycling Holidays increased sales with more than 20% comparing to 2023, which already was a good season.
In 2025, the Taste & Bike Tour will get a new look and we will give even more local entrepreneurs the opportunity to introduce their unique, authentic products to tourism.

In addition to our new cultural bike tours, we have launched a fantastic new product which is in high demand: the Self-Guided Bike Tour or in good Dutch: Cycling on your own. This has immediately proven to be a great success. People feel freedom while cycling, while everything is well pre-organized.

Another great highlight of 2024 is the first experience with interns which have all been incredibly valuable. The goal is on the one hand to capitalize their strengths, and on the other hand to throw them in at the deep end to get them out of their comfort zone and to be able to experience even greater, personal development.

2024 also is the year of new partnerships. We started collaborating with five new partners from Germany, Croatia, the Netherlands and Greece. One of our goals for 2025 is to extend our partnerships worldwide.

Looking ahead to 2025, as preparations are already in full swing and as we grow, we are currently busy looking for a larger office.

Until next year, a year full of new cycling adventures!

Vandaag blikken we terug op een drukke toerdag. Cruiseschip MV Azamara meert ‘s ochtends vroeg aan in Argostoli met bijna 700 mensen aan boord.

Een kleine 20 enthousiaste Amerikanen nemen vandaag deel aan verschillende fietstours, zoals de Argostoli Highlights Bike Tour en de Taste & Bike Tour.

Allereerst gaan we van start met de Argostoli Highlights Bike Tour. Een flinke groep afkomstig uit Boston en New York staat te trappelen om de hoofdstad te verkennen op de fiets.
Tijdens de tour komen we onder andere langs het oudste huis van Argostoli. En daar krijgen de gasten antwoord op een brandende vraag: wat gebeurde er tijdens de aardbeving van 1953?
En wat gebeurde er in de periode erna? Hoe heeft dat de huidige bouwstijl beïnvloed en hoe leven de locals in Kefalonia?

Een uur later ontvangen we de grote groep van 10 Amerikanen, allen afkomstig uit de oostkust van Amerika. Met hen doen we de Taste & Bike Tour, oftewel de Hap & Trap Tour in goed Nederlands. Het proeven van eten en drinken brengt bijna altijd herinneringen op. Ook vandaag. De Amerikanen gaan terug in de tijd bij het proeven van de Kefalonian Meat Pie. De Griekse roots zijn niet langer een geheim. We proeven Bougatsa, bezoeken de Boeren Markt, krijgen een demonstratie hoe Mandola’s, een typische delicatesse van Kefalonia, worden bereid, gevolgd door een uitgebreide test hoe ze smaken. We vervolgen de tour met een bezoek aan de oudste taverna van Argostoli en we sluiten de tour af met een verfrissend, zelfgemaakt ijsje. Ondertussen liggen de Careta careta schildpadden ons gapend aan te kijken als we via de boulevard terugkeren naar Alpha Cycling, het startpunt van de tour. Wat een toffe dag!

De Panigiri van Kefalonia
De maand augustus is in Griekenland helaas een maand waarin veel bosbranden voorkomen. Door de wereldwijde opwarming van de aarde doen zich steeds meer extremen voor. In Griekenland betekent dat enorme droogte. Zo heeft het in Kefalonia sinds April slechts 2 uur geregend en zien de witte druiven er uit als rozijnen, bij een gebrek aan water. In Athene is het nog een graadje erger. Sinds afgelopen zondag woedt er een grote natuurbrand ten noorden van de hoofdstad in de buurt van Marathon.77.000 hectare is al in vlammen opgegaan.

In groot contrast met deze natuurramp staan de Panigiri, de traditionele dorpsfeesten die in augustus dagelijks plaatsvinden op de Griekse eilanden en doorgaan tot in de late uurtjes. Zo ook in Kefalonia. Deze festivals worden gehouden ter ere van een heilige, waarbij de lokale gemeenschap samenkomt om te dansen, heerlijke barbecue en er wordt Robola-wijn gedronken.

Momenteel komt Kefalonia de zomer redelijk goed door en zijn (kleine) bosbranden snel onder controle. Hopelijk is de natuurbrand bij Athene snel onder de duim met behulp van extra brandweerlieden uit Italië, Frankrijk, Tsjechië en Roemenië, zodat ook zij weer snel kunnen genieten van de Panigiri. En wie weet jij ook?

De wijnoogst is vroeg dit jaar. De hitte maar vooral het gebrek aan water is daar voor verantwoordelijk. Toch een mooie opbrengst en kwaliteit van de witte druif dit jaar. Oftewel, frisse, fruitige witte wijn! Een sneak preview van de voorbereidingen tot het resultaat.

In navolging van de e-bikes zijn nu ook onze Hollandse stadfietsen klaar voor het nieuwe seizoen. Netjes onderhouden en helemaal s**k en span, wachten ze om de wei weer in gestuurd te worden. Verder arriveren vanaf morgen de eerste cruiseschepen. Onze fietsen zijn de beste manier om de hoofdstad Argostoli op eigen houtje te verkennen. Of wil je liever een gids? After our e-bikes, also our Dutch city bikes are now ready for the season. Perfectly maintained and s***k and span, they are waiting to be sent back out to the pasture. Some exciting news as well is that the first cruise ships will arrive in Kefalonia from tomorrow. Our bikes are the best way to explore the capital Argostoli by yourself.
