The great blockade of Athens is back - Raining down fines of 150 euros.
The ring road has been put back into effect and the Traffic Police have already begun checks at key points in the center of Athens in order to ensure that drivers are not violating the relevant legislation.
Drivers traveling in the center of Athens should exercise particular caution as ELAS is setting up roadblocks at various points in the center (National Garden, Karaiskaki Square, Kallimarmaro, Larissa Station, Attiki Square, etc.), in order to check that drivers do not violate the green ring measure , which returned to our daily lives yesterday, Monday, October 12, after the summer break.
Characteristically, the blockade on Vasilissis Sofias Avenue, at the height of the former Hilton, with police officers stopping vehicles and checking license plates and necessary documents , imposing fines on those illegally moving within the limits.
Regarding the traffic regime, the law stipulates that on even dates, vehicles with license plates ending in 0, 2, 4, 6 and 8 are permitted to circulate , while on odd dates, those ending in 1, 3, 5, 7 and 9 are permitted .
Of course, there are several categories of vehicles that are exempt from the measure, such as pure electric vehicles, most plug-in hybrids, as well as certain alternative fuel vehicles that have the relevant free circulation permit.
The restrictions apply from Monday to Thursday from 07:00 to 20:00 and on Friday from 07:00 to 15:00 , while they do not apply on weekends, public holidays, or on days when public transport strikes take place.
Regarding sanctions, violation of the Ring is punishable by an administrative fine of 150 euros . At the same time, drivers must comply with the instructions of the Traffic Police during inspections, as in case of refusal or non-compliance with the orders of the bodies, stricter sanctions are provided, which, depending on the case, may even lead to criminal consequences.
