My phone is basically a hotel database…

I spent time in Switzerland this past week, visiting hotels for a client and doing what I’ve been doing for years — looking at hotels through my clients’ eyes.

I honestly have no idea how many hotel inspections I’ve done over the years… a LOT!

And I haven’t just sold hotels for years. I’ve worked with, visited and built relationships with them, so I know what works, what to look out for and, importantly, what ingredients need to come together to make a holiday really work for my clients.

I’m not simply looking for ultra-luxury.

I look at everything from the moment you arrive — the welcome, the staff, the service, the location, the atmosphere and the attention to detail.

But most importantly, I’m asking myself:

Who is this actually right for?

What client?
What family?
What group?
What type of holiday?

I get to know my clients so well that when I’m travelling, I’m constantly thinking about them. I’ll often message a client while I’m away and say:

“You have to check this out — I think this could be perfect for you.”

My phone is full of hotel photos that never make it onto Instagram. They’re there for my knowledge — the rooms, bathrooms, views, pools, restaurants, little details and things you simply don’t get from a website.

Because that’s what I think I’m really good at.

Not just finding a great hotel, but knowing what will make the whole holiday right for you.

Google can give you thousands of hotels. AI can give you a list.

But it takes human interaction, experience and really knowing your client to understand the difference between a hotel that looks great… and a hotel that you’ll genuinely love.

And that’s something I’ve been doing for years.

RIP to travel icon Judith Chalmers. She inspired a generation to dream of seeing the world through Wish You Were Here…? and brought adventure into our living rooms for decades. I was lucky enough to meet her on Praslin in the Seychelles many years ago. Her crew had been delayed in Dubai, and with such kindness and generosity she invited our group to join her for a beach BBQ. It became one of those magical memories that stays with you forever. Thank you Judith, for inspiring us to travel and for showing that the greatest journeys are often about the people we meet along the way. 💫
