The Athens Strollers (SAS) is for those who want to: Get some exercise at the weekend Explore the countryside around and outside Athens Meet different people and make new friends In October 2009, Nigel moved to the Peloponnese and Xenophon Hasapis took over several years as Organizer. Currently the group is organized by Hetty and Marc
There is an activity other weekend, either Saturdays or Sund
ays. In addition, this club organizes other activities, such as all-day trips on some Sundays. Offers are always very welcome from anyone willing to organize a walk. If you can offer to lead a walk, contact Xenophon Hasapis who will send you a guide on how to go about it. The list of venues visited includes Tatoi, Penteli, Parnitha, Kryoneri, Ymittos, Dionysos, Fili, Kareas, Kouvaras, Kessariani, Marathon Lake, Philopappou Hill, Stamata, Varibombi, Lykavitos, Haidari and Sounion. Most walks require only a short drive outside the city. Several members do not have cars and therefore have problems getting to the venue. If you can offer a lift from the North (e.g. the Kifissia metro station), from the South (e.g. Leoforos Poseidonos, the principal seaside avenue going past Glyfada and Voula) or from Athens centre, please send an e-mail to Xenophon Hasapis – offers of lifts are very much appreciated. After the walk, members visit a nearby taverna. No charge is made for taking part in the walk itself, but those going to the taverna share the bill. Every effort is being made to keep the bill to reasonable levels (up to 15 euro each). Information for each walk is usually sent out by e-mail a few days in advance of the walk. This includes directions and a map (where possible) to the start. All the same, the Organizers encourage you not to rely on the e-mails, since they may not get to you, for reasons beyond our control. If you want e-mails to reach you, without disruption from your end, you are advised to enable e-mails from the sender on your browser. You are strongly advised to print out the instructions for the walk you decide to join and follow directions as supplied. It is important that where you are asked to zero your odometer, you do so. In case your car is not equipped with an odometer, all you need do is use a pen to make a note of your kilometers reading at the point you are asked to zero, and add kilometers from there on, as indicated. Following these simple guidelines helps you protect yourself, from getting lost or being late while on the road, when the walk leader can do very little to help you. To find out about our next walk, the safest way is to visit http://athens-strollers.gr regularly and check the section “Activities Schedule” and the section “Activities Descriptions”.
