Akra: A Fire-Kissed Culinary Gem in the Heart of Athens✨
What I love about Akra is its focus on seasonal, open-fire cooking—a major trend in Athens right now! My first visit in April 2025 felt like discovering a true gem. Sitting at the counter, head chef Markos was sociable, kind, confident, and precise, happily answering all our questions.🔥
1st Visit: Party of three. Perfect sourdough with olive oil, fresh ceviche, fish soup, mushroom stew with egg-lemon sauce, and “fireworks” for dessert—citrus sorbet with sweet bread and pistachio.🍋
2nd Visit: Amazing natural w**e, refreshing tomato-watermelon salad, outstanding fish stew and mussel pasta. The zucchini blossoms were missed by the service, but dessert delivered again with vanilla cream choux.🍷
3rd Visit: Group of four. Excellent sourdough as always. An accidental tomato salad turned out amazing, but the star was the creamy minced lamb pasta—a dish that takes you straight back to a Greek village! Dessert was a milk pie meets crème brûlée.🍝
4th Visit: Spring treasures—wild greens, green pies, and fresh vegetables at their peak. Solid ex*****on, though only two mains felt limiting, and I missed having more fish options. Since the menu changes daily, check with them before visiting!🌱
Akra is always fully booked, and walk-ins are rare. After four visits, I can confidently place it among my top 5 restaurants in Athens. Excited to see what comes next!⭐
