🏛️ DID YOU KNOW? 𝗟𝗢𝗥𝗗 𝗕𝗬𝗥𝗢𝗡’s name is still carved into the Temple of Poseidon.
▪️In 1810, the celebrated British poet Lord Byron visited Cape Sounio, home to the magnificent Temple of Poseidon, overlooking the Aegean Sea for nearly 2,500 years.
▪️Lord Byron, one of the most influential poets of the Romantic era, was a passionate supporter of Greek independence. He later joined the Greek struggle for freedom from Ottoman rule and died in Messolonghi in 1824, becoming a lasting symbol of Philhellenism.
▪️During his travels in Greece, Byron visited the Temple of Poseidon, where an inscription bearing his name can still be seen on the ancient marble.
▪️More than 200 years later, “BYRON” remains visible. Α fascinating connection between ancient Greek heritage and one of the country’s most famous foreign admirers.
