Some days need more chairs.

A vow said at the water's edge in Kissamos. A long table laid between three stone houses at Kontomari.
A beach house on the south coast with room for everyone you meant to invite.

Our concierge composes the rest: flowers, music, the chef, the boat.

Begin at Knossos, where Minoan columns narrow toward the ground and the palace rooms open onto light wells.

Move forward three thousand years. At Heraklion's harbour fortress, the winged lion of Venice is still carved into the wall. In Chania, an Ottoman mosque stands on a Venetian quay, and the lighthouse is lit before the town. In Rethymno, a Venetian fountain still runs beneath a minaret. At Arkadi, a monastery façade is carved in Renaissance stone.

And off the eastern coast, Spinalonga. It was a Venetian sea fortress, then an Ottoman village, and later a place of isolation within living memory. It is quiet now, and it asks to be visited quietly.

Few islands hold this much. Fewer let you cross it in an afternoon.

Stay among it. The Crete villas are via the link in bio.

Crete has more coastline than any other Greek island. Our team on the island knows which part of it to be on, and when.

In the west, Balos is reached by boat from Kissamos, and the pink sands of Elafonisi are best walked early. On the south coast, the Venetian castle of Frangokastello stands behind a long sandy beach. Loutro, in Sfakia, is a village you can only reach by sea.

In between are the rocky coves and small tavernas that never make the lists, where lunch is whatever the boats brought in.

The best tables on Crete have no sign worth reading.

It starts at the market in Chania town, where wild greens, graviera and thyme honey arrive before the heat. By noon it moves to a taverna by the water, where the fish is grilled with lemon and oil and served while the boats are still being tied up.

In the lanes of Rethymno and Chania, dakos arrives soft with tomato and mizithra. The lamb has been cooking since morning.

Then the kafenio, where the old men order snails. They are fried face down in hot oil, finished with rosemary and vinegar, and eaten with a glass of raki. It is a dish you will find nowhere else in Greece.

These are the places our team on Crete goes on their own evenings. We keep the names for our guests.

And when you would rather stay in, a private chef brings all of it to your terrace at last light.

Walk Heraklio, Rethymno & Chania's old towns and read them upward.

At street level, honey-coloured limestone, dressed by Venetian masons four centuries ago. An arched doorway, sometimes still carved with a family's crest. Above it, a closed wooden balcony added under Ottoman rule, where a household could watch the lane without being seen.

Neither era erased the other. One simply built on top.

The same logic carries into the island's houses. Stone walls hold the morning cool, and dark timber softens the afternoon.

Crete doesn't show you one period. It shows you where they met.

Everyone has heard of Balos and Elafonisi. Fewer people know when to go.

Our team on Crete does. They know to take the early boat from Kissamos to Balos, when the lagoon is still glassy. They know to walk the waterline at Elafonisi to find where the sand turns pink with crushed shells.

On the south coast the island changes. The Libyan Sea is deeper blue, and the mountains come straight down to the water. At Frangokastello, a Venetian castle stands on the sand. At Loutro, a white village in Sfakia, there are no roads in, only the sea.

Between swims there are the small tavernas our team keeps to themselves. They serve fish from that morning, with the table a few steps from the water.

We keep the names for our guests.

Ask anyone on Crete where to eat and you will hear the famous names. Ask our local team and you will hear something else.

These are the places they go themselves. The market in Chania town at first light. A taverna by the water, where the catch is grilled simply with lemon and oil. A small table in the stone lanes of Rethymno, with dakos and slow cooked lamb. A kafenio where snails are fried the Cretan way and raki is poured without asking.

We don't publish the names. We share them with our guests.

For evenings at home, a private chef sets the table on your villa terrace, with the same ingredients and the same island.

Book now for 2027 and let our Crete team show you where the island eats.
