This is Athens – Convention & Visitors Bureau was established in April 2008 to represent Athens in the global MICE market.

The This is Athens - Convention & Visitors Bureau, managed by Develop Athens S.A., works to position the Greek capital as a top global destination for meetings, events, city breaks, and leisure tourism. Today we are part of the Athens Development and Destination Management Agency, a public company created by the City of Athens to compete for international tourism, investment, and talent. Our membe

rship network represents more than 100 of the largest tourism enterprises in Athens. In 2022, we were recognized as Europe’s Leading City Tourist Board at the World Travel Awards. The core pillars of our work include:
• Bid for conferences and events on behalf of the City of Athens
• Institutional support for conference and event organizers
• Coordination of site inspections
• Provide expertise and know- how about B2B activities in Athens
• Marketing and communications for the City of Athens through B2B channels, FAM trips, and by maintaining relationships with local and international press
• Roadshows and networking events serving international professionals
• Travel Trade Athens – our signature annual B2B event for travel and meeting professionals
• Members Program – our network of over 100 major tourism companies
• Ambassadors Program – our network of academics, professionals, and associations that assist with attracting conferences

Today marks and at This is Athens - Convention & Visitors Bureau, we recognise that managing environmental balance is essential for the long-term viability of our city. As the city's DMO, Develop Athens implements concrete urban projects to enhance climate resilience and sustainable infrastructure. 🏛️🌿

Our current initiatives focus on practical solutions to urban challenges:

🌿Climate Adaptation & Data: Programmes like Cooling Havens, Arsinoe_eu and collect local environmental and thermal data to design targeted public health policies and smart green infrastructure.

🌿Urban Regeneration: The project uses nature-based solutions to redesign public spaces, such as the regeneration of Profitis Ilias Square, focusing on community co-design.

🌿Circular Economy & Mobility: Through the Theseus Hub4Circularity project, we participate in creating Attica's first Circular Economy Hub for water and waste management, alongside sustainable mobility initiatives like the annual "Athinas Without Cars" event of This is Athens - City Festival.

Delegates and Federation Presidents of Company Sport from Denmark, Germany, England and more European countries were welcomed to Athens by Elissaios Sarmas, Develop Athens CEO who delivered a welcoming address. 🏛️👟

This gathering was an opportunity to strengthen collaboration, exchange ideas and ensure the creation of an outstanding experience for all the international participants. It marks the start of preparations for the 26th European Company Sport Summer Games , which will host from 16 to 20 June 2027. The city was selected to host the event, which is expected to bring 6,000 participants from across the globe organised by the Hellenic Organisation for Company Sport and Health.

Ahead of IMEX Frankfurt 2026, the This is Athens - Convention & Visitors Bureau team participated in the City Destinations Alliance CVB Café, held at nhow Frankfurt. 🏛️☕

Bringing together European convention bureaux, the peer-led session created a valuable space to exchange ideas and tackle shared industry challenges across the MICE sector, from staffing and funding pressures to AI, sustainability and the long-term legacy of major events.

Taking part in these working groups allows us to strengthen our local strategies, sharing insights that directly benefit our local network of suppliers and international event organisers.

Our participation at IMEX Frankfurt 2026 from 19 to 21 May concluded with tangible results for the Athenian meetings and events market. Representing the city alongside the Visit Greece -Greek National Tourism Organisation (GNTO) delegation, This is Athens CVB team focused on building new business opportunities. 🏛️💼

Throughout the three-day exhibition, our executives conducted over 60 scheduled B2B meetings and delivered focused group presentations to buyers from key markets, including Turkey and Poland. 📈

Maintaining a consistent presence across international networks remains central to our strategy. During the event, we expanded our industry connections by participating in the ICCA Mediterranean Chapter meeting, alongside dedicated working sessions and forums hosted by ICCAWorld and IAPCO. Additionally, the GNTO co-hosted a networking reception with This is Athens-Convention & Visitors Bureau, Thessaloniki Convention Bureau and Hellenic Association of Professional Congress Organizers-HAPCO as part of the Greek Meetings Alliance to facilitate direct dialogue between international planners and local suppliers. 🤝
