Volissos is located 38 km north-west of Chios Town and is the capital of the Municipality of Amani. It is a beautiful village built amphitheatrically on the slopes of a hill, at the top of which stands a byzantine tower. The walls, the towers and other ruins of a medieval castle are overlooking the village, giving it a picturesque atmosphere. The village has a population of about 300 inhabitants,

most of whom are engaged in agrucultre, fishing and farming. Some also believe that Volissos is the birthplace of the famous lyric poet Homer. Worth seeing around the village of Volissos are the Monastery of Agia Markella, the castle and the many water mills and Byzantine churches scattered. Some public services, a community clinic, nice quiet and value-for-money accommodations for all could found (rooms to let, boutique hotel, separated houses), cafes and taverns offering traditional cuisine and local tastes are available in the village of Volissos and the suburbans.
