The architecture of the Benizelos Mansion in Plaka reveals how an Athenian household functioned during the Ottoman period: grain, oil and w**e were stored on the stone-built ground floor, while the timber upper floor served as the main living space.

Most likely built in the first half of the 18th century, it is Athens’ last surviving konaki; in its courtyard, part of the city’s Late Roman wall remains visible.

On the western side of a Greek island, seawater enters natural openings in the coastal rock and begins a journey beneath the land.
In 1963, geologists used tracing dye to follow it. Fourteen days later, the dye appeared in Lake Melissani on the eastern side. The water then continued to Karavomilos before flowing back into the Ionian Sea.
More than sixty years later, the phenomenon continues.
