MY STORY: 1981. This photo was taken by the old man (with an even older camera) who made a business taking photos by the Memorial Statue Liberty Square in Heraklion. I'd began to settle in Crete,and had written a letter to Mum and Dad telling them that I would be staying there all winter. One fine morning a few weeks latet they turned up out of the blue to 'bring me home'.

WHAT TO DO ON HOLIDAY? Come walking or cycling! Our apartments are a few minutes from the long coastal road that connects Kokkini Hani to Anissaras. Its an 18klm distance (36 klms there and back!). The stunning beauty of the coastal road takes you through Gournes, the old American Airforce base, Gouves,and the Aposelemis Wildlife refuge. Its a long walk/ride but it's well worth doing! Julie x

WHAT TO SEE IN THE CITY🙂The ITAR Museum, also known as the Kotsanas Museum of Ancient Technology, is housed in the ITAR Mansion in Epimenidou Street,centre of Heraklion. The museum showcases technological achievements of ancient Greece, with exhibits that demonstrate the link between ancient Greek technology and modern advancements. The ITAR Mansion itself is a Venetian-era building dating back to 1500 AD and is recognized as a site of cultural heritage. ( Years before the museum if was house to a fantastic bar where I spent many nights meeting Manthos before we were married!)
