It is an amazing beach with crystal clear waters and colors created there by sulfurThe pictures speak for themselves, but the history of sulfur mines has its own interest. The sulfur mines of Milos were at their peak during the interwar period in the 1930s. Sulfur transport facilities, mining galleries, dilapidated offices, tools and various unexplored objects testify to this. During the period 1890-1905 the sulfur mines were operated by the Public and Municipal Works Company. However, in 1905 their operation was stopped due to the production of cheap sulfur in America. Then for a few years they operated sporadically, while in the 1930s, as we said, there was full operation. It was during this period that the facilities that are still preserved in Milos were created. The sulfur mine in Paliorema stopped its operation in the 1960s, but it could have been turned into a beautiful open-air museum and you should not leave it to its fate. Finally, the business closed for good in 1978.
