You’ve earned every wrinkle and upgrade—so why not travel like it?

Traveling after 50 means swapping the “see 10 cities in 3 days” madness for slow travel that actually lets you taste the food, admire the art, and hear the stories behind the places you visit.

Whether it’s a culinary tour with a chef who knows every hidden gem, a museum walk led by someone who pronounces all the artists’ names correctly, a guided hike overlooking scenic vistas, or a historical deep dive with a local guide who’s basically a walking encyclopedia—this is your time to travel smarter, not faster.

Travel for mature folks isn’t about slowing everything down; it’s about elevating the experience. And yes… comfort is absolutely non-negotiable!

Greece’s Corinth Canal is proof that some dreams outlive generations.

First imagined in the 7th century BC, then attempted by Emperor Nero around 67 CE, it wasn’t completed until 1893.

Before 1893, ships had to sail 200 miles/322 km around the Peloponnese peninsula to cross Greece.

Then came the Corinth Canal — a man-made miracle connecting the Aegean and Ionian Seas.

At just 81 feet/24 meters wide at sea level, it’s too narrow for modern ocean cruise and cargo ships, but small cruise boats and private yachts still pass through, framed by 262-foot/80-meter cliffs of golden rock.

GETTING TO THE CORINTH CANAL:

You can reach it by car, on a guided day tour, or by public bus from Athens to Corinth.

It’s about an 1 hour and 15-minute drive from Athens (about 80 km) — an easy stop on the way to the Peloponnese.

If driving, the canal makes a perfect half-day stop before exploring Ancient Corinth or Nafplio. Take the A8/E94 highway towards Corinth and exit for Isthmia. There’s ample parking near the bridge, and local cafés with panoramic views if you’d rather take it slow.

Greece’s Corinth Canal: a perfect blend of natural beauty, ancient ambition, and human determination.

Would you sail through the Corinth Canal or bungee jump off the bridge?!?! (It’s possible to jump if you have the courage!) I opted for scenic views from above. 🙂

In case we haven’t met (or you’re not sure who I am)…

Hi, I’m Lolly! I love helping travelers like you discover incredible places in Europe, Canada, and the U.S.

Travel has been a part of my life since I was a kid. But it wasn’t until adulthood that I really learned the ins and outs of making trips smooth and truly rewarding.

Now I share that knowledge with mature travelers who want to explore iconic sites and hidden gems, travel with ease, and make every journey meaningful.

I’m not here as a travel agent. I’m here to provide you with methods and tools that help you tailor your adventures to your personal objectives.

I’m glad you’re here!!

I plan to head to Belgium and France next.

Where do you plan to travel in the next year or so?! Please let me know in the comments below.

Thanks!
