Due to the impact of the new Typhoon Saudel, the ports of Shanghai and Ningbo suspended empty container pickup, laden container return and vessel operations on August 26, 2026.
Previously, the effects of Typhoons Bavi and Dophin had already caused port congestion of Shanghai, Ningbo, and Shenzhen, with vessel schedule delays exceeding 12 days.
The current Typhoon Saudel is expected to further worsen port congestion, with port crowding and schedule disruptions likely to persist throughout September.
Shipping lines will adopt measures such as port omission to maintain schedule stability.
Although no increase in ocean freight rates is currently foreseen, shippers will face higher costs for trucking and drop-off. Additionally, consignees should expect delays in cargo arrival time.

For Christmas-season shipments, we recommend early booking and selecting carriers with more reliable schedule performance.

During my time serving Kuehne+Nagel, I had the opportunity to meet Mr. Kuehne multiple times. It was always an eye-opener to meet the person who dedicated his entire life to the company and beyond. With his love for Hamburg and Germany, he played a decisive role in supporting Hapag Lloyd and Lufthansa. I am very saddened by the news today. I will always remember him.
