🇬🇧 Severe Storm "Bora" Hits Greece: Major Damage in Rhodes and Other Regions

The severe storm "Bora" has caused widespread destruction across Greece, with significant impacts in Rhodes, Central Macedonia, Lemnos, and Chios. Emergency services have handled over 1,750 incidents since Saturday, including rescues, tree removals, and water pumping.

Key Updates:

Rhodes: The mayor of Rhodes requested Rhodes to be declared in a state of emergency. Over 1,000 rescue calls received and extensive flooding reported. Reinforcements from Athens include firefighters, equipment, and rescue boats. Movement bans remain in effect.

Lemnos & Chios: Dozens of rescues and water pumpings conducted, with additional support sent from Athens.

Central Macedonia: Hundreds of trees removed and streets cleared.

🇬🇧 The Acropolis of Lindos stands on a steep, imposing rock approximately 116 meters (380 feet) high, overlooking the town of Lindos and offering expansive views of the Aegean Sea and surrounding coastline. This natural rock formation has been used as a fortified site since ancient times due to its strategic position and natural defensibility.

The rock of Lindos has been a significant site since the Archaic period, around the 9th century BCE. Lindos itself was one of the three powerful city-states of ancient Rhodes, along with Ialyssos and Kamiros. The acropolis served as a sanctuary, religious center, and fortified stronghold throughout various periods, including the Hellenistic, Roman, Byzantine, and medieval eras.

In ancient times, the acropolis was home to the Temple of Athena Lindia, dedicated to the goddess Athena, who was revered as the protector of the city. The temple, which dates back to the 4th century BCE, was an important religious site. Throughout the centuries, the rock was fortified with walls and towers to protect it from invaders, as it was an ideal defensive position.

Diese natürliche Felsformation wurde aufgrund ihrer strategischen Lage und ihrer natürlichen Verteidigungsfähigkeit seit der Antike als Festungsanlage genutzt.

Der Felsen von Lindos ist seit der archaischen Periode, etwa im 9. Jahrhundert v. Chr., ein bedeutender Ort.
