Bumpy Rhodes Safari's

With so many forest fires burning around the world, Rhodes is once again on Code Orange for fire risk.

This brings us back to three years ago, when a devastating wildfire struck our island. With safaris stopped our entire team spent days and nights in the forest, helping wherever we could.

Here are a few impressions from those intense and unforgettable days.

For you who are hesitating to book the safari right now: Our North tour is hardly effected by the fires. Only on profitis Illias we take one other route than usual.

On the South route things looked to be worse, but lucky enough it is only the first kilometers that are damaged by the fire.

A lot might be burned, but the largests parts of the island are as beautifull as they were before!

Time for a update.

We suspended all safaris from the beginning of the fires and since then all our team was daily at the fires.
After two days of fire it looked to go ok, but on a day with a lot of wind the battles were lost everywhere. Today it looks a bit better in general and I hope the fronts can be stopped.

I am really proud on Cecile, Lex and Simos, our guides, who went out every day to face the flames.

The area where we do our North Safari is hardly effected, one beautifull part on the Profitis Illias is gone, but we still have two good alternatives which we also use regularely.

So from tomorrow we will start our North safari again, with a small team, so the others still can go in the forest.

Bij de bosbranden op Rhodos helpen vrijwilligers mee met blussen. Zowel bewoners van het eiland als vaste vakantiegangers proberen te ondersteunen door werk te doen waar de brandweer geen tijd voor heeft.
