Did you know that Skiathos most likely owes its name to its forests? The word comes from “skia”- the Greek word for shadow- inspired by the dense pine trees that have covered the island for centuries. And nature still defines Skiathos today.
More than two-thirds of the island has been characterised as an aesthetic forest of natural beauty, while the wider area of Koukounaries and Strofilia belongs to the Natura 2000 protected network.
An island where forests reach the sea.
Where wetlands, pine trees and hidden paths remain part of the experience.
On World Environment Day, we remember that protecting nature means protecting everything that gives us life.
Γνωρίζατε ότι η Σκιάθος πιθανότατα πήρε το όνομά της από τα δάση της; Η λέξη προέρχεται από τη «σκιά», εμπνευσμένη από τα πυκνά πευκοδάση που καλύπτουν το νησί εδώ και αιώνες.vΚαι η φύση παραμένει μέχρι σήμερα αναπόσπαστο κομμάτι της ταυτότητάς της.
Περισσότερα από τα 2/3 της Σκιάθου έχουν χαρακτηριστεί ως αισθητικό δάσος φυσικού κάλλους, ενώ η περιοχή των Κουκουναριών και της Στροφιλιάς ανήκει στο προστατευόμενο δίκτυο Natura 2000.
Ένα νησί όπου το πράσινο φτάνει μέχρι τη θάλασσα και η φύση δεν είναι απλώς εικόνα, αλλά εμπειρία.
