On the north part of the island, on the way to Kastro, at an altitude of 200 meters, in the area called “Pryi (Pyrgi)”, there used to be a church honoured on the day of the Nativity of Mary and on Saint Anna’s day. According to tradition, the residents of Kastro, in order to avoid the pirates’ raids, created a small settlement and constructed the initial church which was destroyed by a fire at the end of the 19th century. The one built in its place is honoured on the day of the Dormition of the Mother of God and it is different than the old one, so the elements of the initial construction are not known. The old church, according to Papadiamantis, had murals which were destroyed by the fire. Today there are no traces of the decoration of the original church which was probably constructed around 1770.

Στο βόρειο τμήμα του νησιού, στο δρόμο προς το Κάστρο, σε υψόμετρο 200μ., στη θέση Πρυί (Πυργί), υπήρχε εκκλησία που ετιμάτο στο Γενέθλιο της Θεοτόκου και στην Αγία Άννα. Είναι γνωστή ως «Παναγία Καρδάση» ή «Παναγίτσα» κατά τον Παπαδιαμάντη. Κατά την παράδοση, οι κάτοικοι του Κάστρου, για να αποφύγουν επιδρομές των πειρατών κατά την τουρκοκρατία, δημιούργησαν ένα μικρό οικισμό και οικοδόμησαν την αρχική εκκλησία που καταστράφηκε από πυρκαγιά στα τέλη του 19ου αιώνα.
Αυτή που ανοικοδομήθηκε τιμάται σήμερα στην Κοίμηση της Θεοτόκου και έχει διαφοροποιήσει την μορφή της εκκλησίας, έτσι δεν είναι γνωστά τα στοιχεία που συνέθεταν την αρχική κατασκευή. Η παλιά εκκλησία, σύμφωνα με τον Παπαδιαμάντη, είχε τοιχογραφίες, οι οποίες καταστράφηκαν απ’ την πυρκαγιά. Σήμερα δεν υπάρχουν ίχνη από το διάκοσμο της αρχικής εκκλησίας, η οικοδόμηση της οποίας υπολογίζεται γύρω στα 1770.
