Sometimes we all need a little good news, especially when it comes from what’s happening around us, and in our country, Guatemala.

This is a throwback to December, when we had the honor of sharing, giving back, and celebrating with incredible communities, including:

• Kids from Aldea Xejuyu from El Tejar, Chimaltenango
• Working kids from the landfield in Chimaltenango
• Informal street kid vendors
• Third aged residents in Comalapa, Chimaltenango

Moments like these remind us why community, compassion, and connection matter so much.

None of this would be possible without every single hiker who chooses to walk, explore, and share the journey with us. Every hike helps make these moments real.

In 2017, when Wicho & Charlie’s was still a little hostel and your agency with big dreams, a dog walked into our lives (quite literally) and changed everything.

Chandler showed up at our very first place and never really left. She grew with us, as the years passed, as countless stories were told and shared. She gave us unconditional love, quiet companionship, and the kind of presence that makes a place feel like home.

Today is a heavy day. Chandler crossed the rainbow bridge, and our hearts are hurting. But this post isn’t only about saying goodbye, it’s about honoring her life and the love she gave so freely.

This year, every donation we make will be dedicated in Chandler’s name to the nonprofits and animal sanctuaries we support each month. Many dogs will never get the life Chandler had, but we are committed to keep fighting for them, showing up for them, and choosing compassion every chance we get.

Thank you, Chandler, for walking alongside us from the very beginning. You will always be part of our story. 🐾🤍

Day one:
- get to the agency and have breakfast
- prep your backpacks and leave your luggage at our agency
- take the private bus to the spot where the hike starts
- hike to basecamp and have lunch & dinner with a view
✨ optional ✨ hike to Fuego to see glowing lava up close

Day two:
- wake up for the sunrise hike to summit in Acatenango
- get warm breakfast served
- start walking down to base of volcano
- take the private bus to our agency
