Guatemala is the best place I know for mountain biking. Where else can you walk out your door and be riding a dirt path going up a mountain within a couple minutes?

The 11-day trip we are planning is timed to end right before El Reto del Quetzal, a four-day mountain bike race across Guatemala. The last days of our trip are based in Antigua--and for those of you who sign up for the race--we'll take your out on some good training rides to get you used to the riding in Guatemala.

For those of you who aren't racing, we're planning options for you, too--market tours, cooking lessons, and horseback riding.

For more information about the race, go to the Reto's website: http://www.elretodelquetzal.com/en/index.php?id=31

This is a fun xc ride, mostly for Experienced riders. It also can be done by advanced riders but at a slow pace. This ride has 3 options, we can start riding from antigua and it will be around 36kms. Starting with 10kms of asphalt road, then about an hour of singletrack-double track up and down sections. At the top of the ridge, is where the fun starts. Fun singletrack, all down hill. 2nd option is skip the 10kms of asphalt road and halfway of the climbing sections and start in parramos, where it will be about just 20-30 minutes of climbing, depending on each individual. Or the last option, just take a ride in a van from antigua all the way to the top of the ridge and just enjoy the fun down hill all the way to Santiago Zamora
