In Mi Bella Guatemala, people are already going hungry as the country enters its 9 day of curfew from 4pm to 4am, with nearly all businesses closed per government order, to try to contain the spread of coronavirus. Most live on what they earn day to day.
The government is finally offering some assistance but we will see if it comes all way to this families !
As many of you might know I am partnering with some organizations and families to bring relief to many of this Mayan families, specially in the community of “Popabaj”.
Nine days ago, on March 22nd, the very same day the curfew started we were able to bring food bags to 13 families in Popabaj. We used the money we got for the food program(big lunch)we have for Tuesday’s and Thursday’s and use it to purchase : corn, black beans, rice, sugar, pastas, soups, incaparina, oatmeal, salt, enough for 3-4 weeks......and chocolate cookies for the kids !!!!
The money we use was assigned for the last two weeks of the month but Rosy Buch and Ana Buxyos have not been at popabaj since March 13 in order to keep social distance and keep them safe from coronavirus in Popabaj !
Once again we will not be able to do this without the money support from Robert Bond and his family, Darci Tackels Horne, charlottefbc.org, Sandra Pruckmayr and Yolihuani.org, also the group of students from UNC that just went back home with their fearless leader Lisa Johnston .
Blessing to you all
