We are in awe of everything accomplished this week! 😍 We had a wonder exhibition with 22 or our artists, a beautiful booth with our team, a rug-hooking workshop and our first online embroidery class! 🧵

We are deeply grateful and satisfied for all these accomplishments. This was a reality thanks to our team in Sauder Village, our team in Guatemala, artists, students, donors, collaborator clients and new friends. It was an unforgettable week for us! 😍

Thank you, Thank you, Thank you! 🙏🏻

OUR FIRST EMBROIDERY WORKSHOP! 😱

Another milestone in our journey 👏🏻 our embroidery artists, Lucy and Micaela, taught a workshop to our students in Sauder Village as part of the activities of the Rug-Hooking Week.

They spent days preparing for this opportunity, and we are more than proud of their work! 🥳 They gave an overview of their design process, from using templates, drawing freehand, selecting sources of inspiration and creating color palettes.

And of course, they gave an in-depth demonstration of different types of stitches. 🧵 We even got the opportunity to see up close their Sampler of stitches 😱

We look forward to seeing the designs of our students in our last part of the workshop! Thanks to all our students for their wonderful energy! 🤩

We just finished the first part of our Rug-Hooking Workshop 🤩 We are so thrilled to see some of our students from previous tours and some new faces too.

On the first segment, our artists gave a demonstration about their design processes, sources of inspiration and how to translate a design from paper to cloth. 😱

The technology allows us to feel closer to our students and to show them a detailed view of what is happening in real time in Guatemala!🇬🇹

We are excited for the second part! Stay tuned 🥳🤲🏻

Multicolores is at Sauder Village! 🤗

We’re thrilled and honored to be the featured artists for this year’s Rug Hooking Week. Our team on-site is busy setting up our booth and exhibition, while our artists in Guatemala are preparing for the upcoming online workshops!

There’s nothing like the excitement of new experiences—and none of this would be possible without the passion and dedication of our entire team. 🙌🏼

Our exhibition, “Celebrating the Voices of Maya Women Artists”, showcases the work of 22 incredible artists, including both rug hookers and embroiderers. 😱

If you are at Sauder Village take your time to explore and admire the exhibition, or come by our booth and say hi! 😉🤲🏻

One thing we are sure of with every Gallery Visit is making new friends and long-lasting connections 🤗

A significant part of our mission is to create a community centered on creativity and empowerment. This could not be possible without all our supporters, friends, donors, and collaborators.

If you want to be part of this mission, there are lots of ways you can:

🇬🇹 If you are in Guatemala, come by the office and explore our gallery. You will have the opportunity to meet some of our artists and team.

🧵Acquire artwork on our website to support the economic empowerment of our Maya Women Artists, we are sure you will find your match with either our rug-hooked pieces or embroidery, or both 🤗

The Multicolores Board of Directors, artists and team send heartfelt condolences to the family and friends of Ramona Kirschenman who died on July 13, 2025. Ramona was a treasured member of the Multicolores Board of Directors, an important mentor, and a trusted friend. Her wise counsel informed strategic organizational milestones including our recent pivot to local leadership. Ramona had an uncanny capacity to identify and nurture talent. Today, her mentees hold key positions in Guatemalan NGO’s and beyond. In 2009 Ramona said “yes” in response to a query on hosting a rug hooking class. She believed in the power and the promise of the artists’ first rugs and all that followed- and grew into Multicolores - flows from Ramona’s three letter response: y e s.

We are grateful for her vision, her wisdom, her clarity, her experience and for her fierce determination to expand opportunities for Maya women and to improve their lives. As we build on her dreams for a brighter future, we will always remember Ramona with respect and deep love. - Reyna Pretzantzin, Executive Director, Multicolores. ✨

Learning new skills is an everyday task for an artist ✨

Creativity finds its fuel not just in different inspiration sources but also in techniques, processes, and various ways to convey the same message throughout diverse mediums. 🖌️

We go back to 2024 when our artists received a drawing workshop specifically designed to learn human proportions. At first, they found it challenging; it was new knowledge.

But our artists are resilient and they stuck through the uncomfortable part of the learning curve and wondered themselves after, with their first sketches. 🤩

We feel immensely proud of our artists, seeing how their effort is paying off. We can see the results of their commitment, their practice, and their joy! Their pieces now are bolder, they have more confidence to portray not just natural patterns and birds, which they do marvelously 🥰, but human figures and more complex designs.

Discover some of their pieces in our online collection!

Making a fellow rug-hooker happy is easier than you think 👀
We have a few tips for you:

1) The perfect gift: base materials for their design. You can choose between Monk’s cloth, burlap, linen, or carpet warp. They will be so grateful, they may even create a design for you. 👀

2) Lots and lots of recycled garments 🩳
Creativity and sustainability go hand in hand; the more garments, the better.

3) Hooks and Frames 🪡
The ink and paper of our fabric artists. You can ask your rug-hooker friend which type of frame and hook she or he prefers. They are different styles, forms, and budgets.

4) Recommend our upcoming ✨RUG HOOKING TOUR 2026✨
Send this post to all your rug-hooker friends and invite them to this unforgettable experience in Guatemala, where they will learn how to rug-hook the Maya way! 🇬🇹
