Located on High Street in Georgetown, the Umana Yana is a traditional thatched hut built by the Wai Wai people of Guyana. The name means โmeeting placeโ and reflects its cultural purpose.
Originally constructed in 1972 by 60 Wai Wai men and their chief Elka, the iconic structure was designed by Guyanese architect George Henry. It took just 80 days to complete, using materials brought all the way from Konashen in the Rupununi.
