🇬🇾 Introducing KENNY THOMAS of Kanuku Tours Nature Lodge and Resort!
Our amazing tour manager, here he is participating in a very important event related to fisheries; with documents that are currently being reviewed and validated by important stakeholders in Surama Village.
One of the documents is named “Best practices for sport fishing in inland waters in Guyana.”This document aims to offer essential guidance to steer recreational fisheries towards sustainability in Guyana. The document considers emerging practices such as catch-and-release (C&R), which has gained traction globally as a conservation strategy.
The next steps after this validation is to consolidate all the comments into the draft document and refer back to the Fisheries Department and the Ministry of Agriculture for their final endorsement.
Thank you to Surama Eco Lodge, the Village Council, and Ivor Daniels (Surama Senior Councillor), for hosting us to meet and present these two documents. Thank you also to the SWM Programme core team, Nakita Dookie (Fisheries Department Principal Fisheries Officer), Kevin Edwards (NRDDB Project Coordinator), and Bertie Xavier (RDC Vice-Regional Chairman) for your presentations and words. Thank you additionally for the attendance from representatives from Iwokrama, Guyana Truly Wild, Rewa Eco Lodge, Kanuku Tours, Visit Rupununi, and Karanambu Lodge, along with representatives from the villages of Rewa, Katoka, Fair View, Apoteri, and Annai.
