New Year’s Day 2026 arrived, the year of the fire horse and the crew were woken up by the sounds of the lion dance drumming. We rushed downstairs to see the famous lion dancers in all their glory! There was even a mini one for the trekkers to have their picture with. Gung Hei Fat Choi everyone!

We went for a wee wander in Beitou town, and Seamus and Annie decided they should climb a tree together! It was pretty scary for a moment but they got up and down ok, and their intrepid tour guide had her eyes closed the entire time!

Happy year of the fire horse! We couldn’t resist this fiery display in the lobby of the hotel in Beitou, Taiwan. There aren’t any horses but there seems to be plenty of fire…

I don’t mean to complain… but our tour guide tends to eat everything before we can get a photo together… Vincci and Seamus managed to get a photo of the chopsticks on the table but then they got out of the line of food before things got dangerous!
