Villa Brbon is located at the foot of the village Krbune, mentioned back in the 14th century and owes its name to the coal (karbun), which was produced by the inhabitants of this region.
NAME 'BRBON'
Firstly, it is important to explain the origin of the name of the Holiday house “Villa Brbon”. In all Istrian villages each family has a nickname that is well known by everybody. And so the Šilić family, or, to be more precise, the grandfather, from the Šilići village had been given the nickname Brbon because he liked to argue with his neighbors, friends and with those who annoyed him. The word brbon means “grumpy” and “grouchy”. All this is the exact opposite to the householders of Villa Brbon and to the soul of the house, so we are aiming to connect hospitality, peace and pleasure with the name Brbon, by keeping at the same time the memory of the “grumpy” grandfather, without whom you it would not be possible to enjoy and relax in one of the most peaceful places in central Istria.
Location
Villa Brbon is located at the foot of the village Krbune, mentioned back in the 14th century and owes its name to the coal (karbun), which was produced by the inhabitants of this region.
There is the church of St. John the Baptist and a school, that nowadays is closed, both dating back to the 17th century. At that time only rich villages could pride in having both a church and a school.
SURROUNDINGS
Close to Krbune there are the villages of Gračišće and Pićan. The old Pićan is known for LegendFest, a festival of folk tales, traditions, legends and fairy tales of Istria that offers open air concerts, theater productions, performances, fantasy art exhibitions and is held each year.
Gračišće is a quiet little village with many cobbled streets, squares, a church and a chapel. Every year in April a wine festival is held there and visited by even 20 000 people in one day.
The feeling
The swimming pool has a stunning view of forested hills with the villages of Gračišće and Pićan on top. The carefully chosen position of the pool provides natural shade thanks to the centuries-old oak’s branched crown even when the sun shines high above your head. Arriving in front of Villa Brbon, you are immediately aware that in the morning you will be awakened by the birdsong, in the evening, chirping crickets, because it is surrounded by forest and centuries-old oak, and the remains of the houses from where the Brbons went to the modern world
