The legend says that the name Povlja comes from a Roman called Paulus who chose this bay to built his house here nearly 2000 years ago. More recent history of Povlja dates back to 6th century when the early Christian basilica was built. The oldest monument written in Croatian Cyrillic script named Povaljska listina also originated here.

Today Povlja is a scenic and quiet place ideal for anyone looking to get away from the huste and bustle of moder urban living.💙

St. Peter's Church in Nerežišća was built in 1413. It is one of the numerous small medieval churches on .

But one small Black Pine tree made this church a worldwide wonder. This tree is known as Brač Pine Bonsai Tree and grows on the church's roof. No soil for roots, and no water to grow like any typical tree.

It is about 170 cm tall, and locals say it is more than 150 years old. No one knows how it came here or how it survives, but we know that it is one of the most photographed motifs of the island.

Mild and pleasant September temperatures invite you to go out and explore the island. There are so many possibilities that it is impossible to do them all in just one trip.

The most popular is a circular Via Brattia Hiking Trail that surrounds the entire island and connects 12 most famous attractions and almost all Brač settlements.

Brač is also a well-known cycling destination with Sutivan as the centre of biking on the island. In total, there are 25 marked bicycle trails on the island so everyone can find a suitable trail.

We however are more interested in exploring unbeaten paths and off-grid spots like the one in this photo taken in Novo Selo.

Novo Selo is a small idyllic village located on a hill above Selca and Povlja. It offers beautiful views of the sea and Biokovo mountain on the mainland. At the very entrance to the village you will find an open-air exhibition - sculptures by local artist and stonemason Frane Antonijević.
