Vis island has one of the most authentic food traditions in Croatia, mainly because of its strong fishing history and then relative isolation until the early 90's.
One of these much loved traditions is the Viški Cvit, a dry cake with a distinctive flower shape and a strong anise aroma.
Every family will have a favourite baker who provides these sweet treat for every occasion. Mirela is making them daily for everyone to savour, local and visitor to Vis town. Mirela and her shop has been rightly acknowledged for keeping island traditions alive.

By Paulina Mlinarić VIS, CROATIA - Visitors come to Vis for its crystal-clear sea, hidden coves, rich history and renowned wines. But a distinctive scent of anise is now giving travellers another reason to stop and explore the island. That aroma leads to Viški cvit, a small family-run gastro desti...

When kayaking around Vis, its important to follow a few key safety measures:

* Check the weather and marine forecast before setting out. Winds such as the bura (strong northeasterly) and jugo (southeasterly) can create dangerous conditions very quickly.
* Stay close to shore unless you’re experienced and equipped for open-water paddling.
* Tell someone your route and expected return time.
* Carry a phone in a dry bag so you can call for help if needed.
* Wear sun protection, current Croatian sun can be intense!
* Bring plenty of drinking water
* Use appropriate footwear to protect against sharp rocks and sea urchins when launching or landing.
* Be aware of shipping lanes.
* Know your limits. If the sea becomes rough or the wind strengthens, head to the nearest safe landing point rather than trying to continue.

Alternatively allow us to help you, advise you and check those details for you. That’s the advantage of having us as a guide. Plus we know all the best places to kayak!

See you on the water….

For everyone that loves Vis and Dolphins, and to be honest that's got to be a lot of us! How about adopting this young dolphin to help with the continued research of the marine life around the island.

This International Yoga Day, we celebrate balance, strength, and connection in one of the most beautiful locations on Vis Island.

Wrapped in nature and dressed for movement, we’re embracing every stretch, every breath, and every moment of calm.

We’re also remembering our sweet International yoga dog, Zora who loved to join us for our morning stretch and supervise everyone.

Day one of our school group activities. A day that involved a military history tour of Vis Island, a bike ride, a hike and a kayak. Swimming, snorkeling, rock climbing and rock jumping as optional extras. Obviously this was combined with ice creams, a sneaky pizza and a very random chat about the recycling bins in Komiza….

Hopefully everyone will get a good nights sleep before we repeat and explore tomorrow!

Week 1 of the season = unforgettable firsts 🌊☀️

This week was all about stepping outside comfort zones, trying something new, and making memories together on Vis Island 🇭🇷💙

For some of our guests this week..

✨ First time kayaking through crystal-clear waters
🥗 First time discovering how delicious vegan food can be
🏄 First time paddle boarding — and first time falling into the Adriatic 😄
👫 First time on a small group holiday and then meeting people who instantly felt like friends
🧘 First time practicing yoga

What made this week so special for us was being part of one guest’s journey back to kayaking. After losing confidence following an injury, getting back on the water was a big step. Watching that confidence return with every trip—and seeing the smiles afterwards—was truly heartwarming. 🛶💙

Rested, inspired, energised, and already thinking about coming back. This is the energy we’re bringing into the season. And we’re only getting started 🚣‍♀️✨

Message us if you want to be part of the adventure, we have a room available on the 27th June ❤️

First paddle with guests yesterday to start our 2026 summer season and what a wonderful day on the water. Sun is shining, water was perfect for kayaking and we had the Green Cave all to ourselves.

We still have a couple of spaces at the end of June if you want to message us for details.

Part of the preseason fun is the experimenting in the kitchen for potential new recipes for our guests. Today I made bagels, using a tin of chickpeas, olive oil, oat milk and some flour. Big success and full of protein.

Food is such a big part of the WearActive experience and we are always looking at ways to share vegan food with others.

What should I make next?
