不少克羅地亞人經營民宿的原因說得直白是「揾兩餐」。作為一盤生意，民宿客人也是我現時的「米飯班主」。但當初很渴望成為民宿東主的原因毫不實際。十多年前在法國普羅旺斯旅行，遇上兩位風格截然不同、但同樣令我至今難忘的民宿東主：馬賽那位是口甜舌滑的大公關， Avignon 那位則是異常優雅的「年輕」法國祖母。與他倆的閒聊和相處，是普羅旺斯之旅可以成為個人經典的重要因素。當時自忖，若可以與其他人共創這種旅行經歷和體驗，感覺應該更棒。於是經營民宿成為了自己的祕密心願。

那時在香港營營役役，真的毫無頭緒會怎樣成事。但每一次去旅行我必定想起這個願望（事實上無可避免，預訂住宿之時一定縈迴夢想）。人生有些事情很難用常理去解釋。雖然這個秘密心願看似癲狂，但那時不覺自己痴人說夢。

若大家以為移居克羅地亞會成為我追夢的催化劑，這個似乎理所當然的猜測又不中啊。

當初移居格仔國的時候，經常被問克羅地亞在哪，怎會想到今時今日有港人聚會？由於各人居住不同城市，這次聚會可以成事真的全靠大家有心有力。各人聊了不少克羅地亞生活的甜酸苦辣和心路歷程，感覺挺奇妙：離也許不一定散，而可能成全另一些聚。在寒冬的歲月亦確實帶來一些圍爐的溫暖。

去年在某報的訪問我曾透露，移民到克羅地亞並不容易。因為血緣關係在克羅地亞非常重要 。這一點跟華人蠻相似，所以移民克羅地亞又不比移民台灣甚或日本難。

在克羅地亞經營民宿之後，經常想寫民宿手記。但深怕數篇之後無以為繼，於是一再拖延。幹了七年終於有點信心寫一個系列。

到過克羅地亞自由行的，十之八九入住過民宿。除了因為遊人「融入當地」的希冀之外，也由於實際需要：克羅地亞的酒店房間不足以滿足旅遊旺季的龐大需求。我一直住在 Split民宿林立又歷史悠久的市中心住宅區，親見克羅地亞第二大城市十年來的民宿變化。
