A perfect day in Split, Croatia! ☀️🇭🇷
1: Diocletian’s Palace
Start early, before the tour groups arrive and midday heat sets in.
Built around 300 AD as Roman Emperor Diocletian's retirement residence, the palace is now the heart of the city.
Allow 1.5–2 hours to wander through the Peristyle Square, visit the Cathedral of St. Domnius and explore the underground cellars.
2: Old Town & Riva
From the palace, lose yourself in the narrow stone lanes of the Old Town.
Explore the little shops and cafés until you reach Fruit Square, one of Split's prettiest gathering places.
Then head towards the Riva, Split's palm-lined waterfront promenade, and enjoy a walk along the harbour.
3: Lunch
Maestro Grill Club: open-fire grilling in a shady pine grove near Bačvice and Firule beaches. Fresh seafood and steak.
Konoba Varoš: family-run tavern near the Old Town just off the waterfront. Traditional Dalmatian cooking at fair prices, popular with locals.
4: Cool off in the Adriatic
After lunch, it’s time to cool off and relax on the beach.
Taxi over to Kašjuni Beach, tucked beneath Marjan Hill. Its clear Adriatic water, pebbled shore and surrounding pine trees make it an ideal spot for relaxing on the shore or going for an afternoon swim.
Tip: bring water shoes for the pebbles.
5: Climb Marjan Hill
When you've had your fill of beach time, skip the walk back into town and head straight up Marjan Hill.
From Kašjuni, follow the forest trails up the hillside to Marjan's main path, then wander east through the pines to Vidilica.
You'll be rewarded with panoramic views over Split's terracotta rooftops, the harbour and the islands of Šolta and Brač.
Tip: wear proper shoes as the climb from the beach is steep.
6: Dinner by the sea
Dvor: Set in a tree-lined garden overlooking the sea, just outside the Old Town. Expect modern and elevated takes on Dalmatian cuisine in a beautiful, relaxed setting.
Adriatic: Perched on the Sustipan cliffs just above the sea, with panoramic views across the city, marina and islands. The menu focuses on fresh seafood and Mediterranean-inspired Dalmatian cooking.
