Thursdays are reserved for the lovely guests of our dear partner Hotel Bretanide****, Bol, Croatia. The day was a bit cloudy, but that didn’t stop us from having a great time! We enjoyed everything but the best part of the trip was the view from Vidova Gora. Such a classic – always looking forward to it! 😊

Once again the beautiful sailing ship Le Ponant sailed in with our dear guests from France. We visited the Jakšić gallery in Donji Humac, Vidova gora, Trolokve, the winery in Bol and the exhibition of stone miniatures by the artist Josip Radić in Pučišća.

We saw how domestic artsman are creating beautiful stone figures from the famous white stone from Brač, tried excellent wines from Stina winery and admired breathtaking view from Vidova Gora.😊

As the summer season ended and the autumn one has just started – let’s remember some of the tours and wonderfull times we spent together during August and September.

We start with the tour we had with our lovely guests from France and UK, who sailed in on the beautiful ship Le Ponant. We visited the Jakšić gallery in Donji Humac, the Stina winery in Bol and the Josip Radić gallery in Pučišća.

In addition to the famous Golden Horn, Brač has many wonderful hidden beaches. Not far from Bol is the picturesque village of Murvica, surrounded by carefully maintained
vineyards, where wine thrives in sometimes less accessible areas, all thanks to the hardworking hands of Brač farmers. The picturesque pebble beaches nearby are one of the most beautiful on this part of the island. 😊

World famous white stone from Brač

Brač stone was used for the construction of many famous buildings in the world, such as Diocletian's Palace in Split, the lobby of the United Nations building, so over time started urban legends that it was used to build the White House in Washington, although there are no historical data for that claim.

One more interesting fact about white stone is that the real attraction on the island of Brač are piles of raw white stone piled into walls along many old village roads, and according to some estimates, they contain the same amount of stone as the existing Egyptian pyramids, with a total volume of about 7 million cubic meters. 😊

Recently we had the honor of hosting a study trip of American travel agents and journalists. The day was beautiful, lots of sun and the guests from America decided to use it in the best possible way, with our excursion around the island of Brač. We visited all the natural and historical sights, from Vidova Gora to Trolokva and all the way to the old Dalmatian village that has been renovated and now serves as a family farm where you can taste autochthonous Dalmatian specialties. 1. There’s no town with the same name

A large number of inhabited islands in Croatia have a place on the island which has the same name as the island itself. On Krk there’s the town of Krk, on Pag there’s the town of Pag, on Cres there’s the town of Cres, but on Brač there’s no town of Brač. The largest places on the island are Supetar and Bol.

2. Its name (allegedly) comes from the word for deer

Although this hasn’t been confirmed for sure, the belief is that Brač got its name from the word deer. The Greeks called it Elaphusa, and elaphos is the Greek name for deer. The name for deer of the natives of this area, the Illyrians, was brentos. 😊

With 2,600 hours of sunshine per year, the island of Brač is one of the sunniest areas of the Adriatic. Bol, the oldest town on the island's coast, famous for the beach Zlatni rat, has an average of 134 sunny and 88 cloudy days during the year.

On one of those cloudy days we had an untypical situation — during the excursion it started to rain, but it didn’t stop us from having a great time — on the contrary, it was extra fun! ☺️
