Hello adventurers! We are happy to announce that our 2023 trips have been updated on the website and we are now open for bookings for next year.

While you plan and think about the warm Adriatic paddles in the upcoming season, here is a video for a taste of what winter paddling on the Adriatic is like.

- Marko

Winter as usual in Croatia. Jugo storms (southernly wind) up to 150km/h -supposedly some of the strongest in last 50 years. With it comes the little swell th...

We can't turn off social media.
We can't predict the future (if we ever could – up for discussion)).
--
But we can remind ourselves that there is a place of calm.
It is somewhere between our two ears.
It is also on one of the islands in Croatia.
Neither of these two is going anywhere.
We all just may need to practice patience (yes, a little bit more) before our get-together.
--
You know which island we're talking about. :)
You know how we move around on that island.
--
Here is a short video
For all those whose New Year's Resolutions included SUP
(congrats for still sticking to it!) :)

Btw, if you forgot, all this time we are implementing:
# ATTA Covid-19 Health&Safety Guidelines
# Local Croatian policies.

Paddling through history.
⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀
Officially, this is an uninhabited island. No public transport brings you here.
⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀
There is a single house in the middle of this south facing bay. It's been refurbished now and some fisherman live there.
⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀
The interesting bit in this building complex is the little round building– the first you see when you enter the bay. On the video, it's right next to the dock.
⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀
That round building is a former fortress. If you look careful, you will still see a canon (15th century style), sitting there facing the bay.
⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀
From 13th to 15th century pirates were roaming the islands. As a result villages were seldom on the coast and always high up on the islands. This place had a different strategy. A canon to deter any buccaneering intentions.
⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀
Turquoise waters. Pirates. Strong alcoholic beverage (rum or rakija). Caribbean? Think again.

Sometimes you stop because there are things to see. That's most often really, at least when we design the routes.
⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀
Sometimes you stop because you feel like having a break. That's fine, too.
⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀
Our SUP touring American Canoe Association courses teach you how to paddle safely and efficiently, how to do all safety procedures but also how to do exits in different kind of environments and how to make shelters.
⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀
Join us for SUP touring trips and courses in 2021.

Would you be afraid of this man if you came across him on the open seas somewhere in the Adriatic?
⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀
Don't be seduced by his choice of clothing colour. Darth Wader is also chalk white when his mask comes off!

Paddling out of an abandoned harbor on an island in Croatia. Today, the former harbor is just a pile of rocks partially underwater.
⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀
In older days - we are talking 1900s - there were no motorboats. Your mean of transport was a boat with a Latin sail.
⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀
How do you get to the best fishing spots with that Latin-sail powered boat knowing that the predominant wind is Maestral (NW)? You make the harbor so that the wind takes you directly to the best fishing spots. That entails a 2km walk to the harbor (as the second image illustrates)
⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀
Life used to be very much in tune with nature. So much that it dictated where harbors were built.
⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀
Stand up paddleboard touring around the islands in Croatia pays homage to the old island ways. When designing our routes we leverage the sea state and the wind conditions as much as the former fisherman used to.
⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀
Keeping the pulse on weather and sea state is an integral part of what we teach you on our SUP touring and kayaking courses.
⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀
Join us for ACA SUP courses or EPP kayaking courses or just guided trips in 2021.
⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀
Some weeks are already sold out.
⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀
🤔Psssst. From what I see, there won't be as many flights in 2021 as we got used to before Covid. That will impact the pricing, too. Drop us a message to work out the dates for your trip to secure your logistics.

I've learned one thing about doing SUP touring skills.
⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀
You can do it on open water but it is much better to do it with real life obstacles.
⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀
Buoys are useful.
⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀
Play around small fishing boats is better.
⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀
But you can't beat the play in a former quarry.
⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀
Here you see what skills really sinked in. Here is the final test for your draw stroke, bow rudder or the skulling draw.
⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀
Remember, there is not finish line. You keep on paddling. Keep on trainning. Keep getting better.
⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀
We'll come back to the quarry again to see the progression.
⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀
Drop me a message if you want to join one of our American Canoe Association SUP skills courses in 2021.

A former military dock. Pretty much in the middle of nowhere.
⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀
As a kid I was here very often fishing with my dad. Spotting submarines and dolphins was a regular occurrence. This dock served as anchoring point for all kind of military vessels.
⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀
Today, it's a place to practice kayak and SUP exits on high docks.

You know how all the left foot shoes in the sea end in up one place and all the right foot shoes end up in a completely different place?
⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀
It's due to shape of the sole. They turn different ways. Very much like your kayak or SUP board if you edge it. That's how we turn.
⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀
A lot of left foot shoes here and many other things. Everything from chairs to plastic champagne glasses. Mostly it is little micro-plastic - new life form of the plastic bags which we still get in abundant qualities all around the country.
⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀
This little bit of coastline is exposed to Bura wind which brings all the trash from mainland. A perfect lunch spot after some beach clean up.
⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀
Is there a lot of trash in places where you paddle at home?
⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀

03/09/2020

Should some places just stay secret?
⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀
Nature is here to keep us curious. On our toes. To inspire us to be better, stronger. To paddle further. To learn new skills.
⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀
Places like this are reward for our effort. For those who do the extra mile. Go beyond one more point. Curious enough to keep paddling.

He thinks we are funny.
⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀
We think he is funny.
⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀
It's all about perspective.
⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀
Kayaking and local life interwoven are what makes kayaking in Croatia unique. There is also the clear sea. And the submarine tunnels. And occasional cave. The shipwrecks. The food.
