Better with Betti in Budapest!

I recently went on vacation to Miami, and of course, I experienced a few culture shocks while I was there. I think that's pretty normal when visiting new places. One of the biggest differences between my beloved Budapest and Miami is the presence of skyscrapers. In Budapest, there's a law that bans them from being built in the inner city. The Hungarian gas company MOL does have one, but it's way out on the edge of the city. Most locals — myself included — aren't fans of it. It ruins the skyline, even if it's not always visible, thanks to Gellért Hill.

Personally, I don’t like skyscrapers in Budapest, but in other places like Miami, I don’t mind them as much. I guess I like the old buildings because of their charm, not necessarily for their practicality.

What do you prefer? Old but beautiful buildings, or new, modern buildings and skyscrapers?

☕✨ There’s something magical about stepping into a place where time seems to stand still.

Welcome to Művész Kávéház, one of Budapest’s most iconic and historic cafés, nestled on the grand Andrássy Avenue—often called the Champs-Élysées of Budapest. Opened in 1898, Művész (“The Artist”) has long been a gathering place for writers, painters, intellectuals, and opera-goers, thanks to its location right across from the Hungarian State Opera House.

Inside, you’re greeted by a timeless elegance: velvet-covered chairs, gilded mirrors, marble tables, and softly glowing chandeliers that have witnessed over a century of conversation, creativity, and clinking coffee cups. The whole space radiates old-world charm—like a postcard from the Austro-Hungarian Empire.

Order a cappuccino or a rich hot chocolate, and don’t miss their famous pastries—especially the Andrássy cake, inspired by the noble family the boulevard is named after. Whether you sit indoors beneath the ornate ceiling or out on the terrace watching the world pass by on Andrássy Avenue, it’s a scene straight out of a classic film.

In a city where every corner has a story, Művész Kávéház is where history and culture come to life—one sip at a time.

The 3rd of June holds a very special place in my heart as it is the date I started my business in 2023. I did my first ever free walking tour in Budapest which was the first time showing people my beautiful hometown.

This week on Tuesday I held a free walking tour in one of the more hidden areas of Buda side (vízvaros) as away to celebrate this mile stone in my life. Many of you came and took part in this walking tour. I was so glad to meet you and put the faces to the names.

Based on the feedback I got from the people who participated everyone had a nice time, which I am so glad to hear. I tried to combine history with some of my own personal stories of the area. It was truly my pleasure to show you one of my favourite areas of Budapest that is over looked by so many.

As I look back on these past 2 years my business has grown a lot. Ive gone from doing free walking tours to now only doing private walking tours of the city! I’ve had the chance to show Budapest to people from so many different countries: Germany, the Netherlands, USA, Great Britain, Ireland, Australia, Malaysia, Saudi Arabia, Pakistan, India, Malaysia, France and more! It has been my absolutely pleasure to do this!

I’ve grown my social media accounts and have following that is super supportive of what I do! This means so much to me.

I hope I get to grow my business even further and show more people this place that I’ve called home for many years! For inquiries for my guided tours send an email to [email protected]

Why did I choose to become a tour guide in Budapest? i wanted to share my love of Hungary with as many people as possible. I truly believe understanding different cultures benefits every single person for the better. It helps you understand the world and become a world citizen in the process. You will become more open minded and more accepting of things around you in the world. Maybe even learn things you can integrate into your own life.

On June 3rd, I’ll be celebrating a special milestone—2 years since I became a tour guide here in Budapest! 🎉
To mark the occasion, I’m bringing back something that made that very first day so memorable: a free walking tour.

That first tour was a fun and informal way for people to meet, connect, and discover the city together. I’ve decided to turn this into a yearly tradition, and I’d love for you to be part of it.

This year, I’ll be taking you to one of my favorite spots on the Buda side—Fő utca. I’ll share some stories about the area, point out a few interesting sights, and talk a bit about my personal connection to the neighborhood.

🕕 The Plan:
Meeting Point: Bambi Café – Frankel Leó út 2–4, 1027 Budapest

Time: Meet at 6:00 PM

We'll grab some drinks and have a casual chat to start the evening

Around 7:00 PM: We’ll begin our walk down Fő utca in the 1st District

We’ll check out some cool sights and local history along the way

Then we’ll cross the Chain Bridge and finish near St. Stephen’s Basilica

If there’s interest afterward, we can head to a second location to continue the evening—this part is open-ended and optional.

If you’d like to join, please fill out the from below to join.
I’m really looking forward to seeing as many of you as possible. It would be super cool to meet you and share this moment together!
