The Red Hedgehog Inn was established in 1696 and became the Buda Castle District’s main inn, hosting travellers, balls, and theatre performances.
The building has an even older history: in the 14 th century it belonged to the Pauline Order and reportedly housed a relic of St. Paul the First Hermit, but centuries later during the interwar period it was also allegedly used as a brothel.
Today, the historic building houses a folk-art shop, while its medieval origins and later history are preserved in the building itself.

The Hungarian National Archives looks medieval, but it is actually from the 20th-century. You can find it in the Castle District. The building and its collections survived some extraordinary destruction during World War II and again during the 1956 Hungarian Revolution.
The National Archives appeared in the film Nuremberg (2025) starring Russell Crowe and Rami Malek. Its distinctive historic façade can be recognized in the film.
