A day in Kóspallag, and a glimpse of what regenerative tourism can look like. 🌿

On September 1st, we organized a demonstration day in Kóspallag specifically for HR professionals from companies in Budapest and beyond, to showcase the work we have been developing together with BURST and the Kóspallag Község Hivatalos Oldala

The day brought together several elements of our regenerative tourism programme.

We started in the village organic garden, discovering local farming practices and harvesting seasonal ingredients. These then became the basis for a vegetarian lunch prepared together with Fazekas Bálint Personal Chef.

In the afternoon, we moved to Étterem és Bisztró for a presentation and traditional basket-weaving workshop with Bettina Heincz.

Different people, skills and local resources coming together to create one experience — and this is really at the heart of what we are trying to build.

The programmes are designed for companies looking for meaningful experiences outside Budapest, whether for team-building, leadership retreats or as an addition to a training, conference or symposium.

And they are not fixed. They evolve with the seasons, the people involved and the clients interests and needs.

We are continuing to build new partnerships, develop new routes and connect with local service providers across the Börzsöny.

There are still challenges, of course. But with every programme, we learn, adapt and improve — together.

We are excited to see where this journey takes us, and to welcome more companies willing to discover the region through its people, nature and local knowledge. 🌱

When someone asks me what I do…

The honest answer is: quite a lot of different things.

A typical day at Humtour can mean talking to clients, working with local partners, developing new programmes, coordinating logistics, creating content, taking photos, shooting videos, brainstorming ideas… and spending plenty of time out in the field.

It can also mean spending hours in front of my laptop — sometimes working remotely from home — writing, planning, researching, answering emails, building programmes and trying to make all the pieces fit together.

And then comes the part I’m always looking forward to: finally getting out there and seeing all those plans come to life.

Hiking through the Börzsöny, getting on a kayak, trying a new outdoor activity, cooking and tasting local food, spending a night under canvas, testing a new campsite or discovering a place we might include in a future programme.

No two days are quite the same. The work changes with the seasons, the projects we’re developing and the experiences we’re preparing.

But honestly, the best part is getting to experience these programmes ourselves.

We want to know what our guests are going to experience — not just how a programme looks on paper, but what it actually feels like to be there.

Does the route work? Is the activity enjoyable? Is the food experience worth it? Does the accommodation feel right? What could we improve? What little detail could make the whole experience even better?

That’s why getting out there, testing, exploring and experiencing things ourselves is such an important part of what we do.

And of course, I’m not doing all of this alone.

I’m lucky to be part of the Humtour team, working closely with our local partners, hosts, guides and service providers. Everyone brings their own expertise, ideas and perspective to the table.

So, what do I do?

A little bit of everything — but mostly, I get to explore, test, create and help turn ideas into experiences we’re proud to share with you.

Még van néhány szabad hely a szeptember 1-jei HR Experience Day-re Kóspallagon. 🌿

Mi történik, ha egy csapatépítő program nemcsak a résztvevőknek ad élményt, hanem a helyi közösség és a természet számára is értéket teremt?

Az elmúlt hónapokban ezen dolgoztunk Kóspallagon a BURST Nonprofit Kft.-vel, Kóspallag Önkormányzatával és helyi szolgáltatókkal közösen Magyarország első regeneratív turisztikai pilot projektjének keretében.

Szeptember 1-jén most HR-eseket, cégvezetőket, trénereket, coachokat és rendezvényszervezőket várunk egy egész napos szakmai bemutatóra, ahol nem prezentációkon keresztül beszélünk a regeneratív csapatépítésről, hanem megtapasztaljuk, hogyan működik a gyakorlatban.

Helyi termelők, kézművesek, közös főzés helyi alapanyagokból, élményprogramok és kötetlen szakmai beszélgetések – egy nap Kóspallagon, másképp.
A részvétel ingyenes, de a férőhelyek száma korlátozott.

Today, August 12, 2026, the sky has a double surprise in store.

First, a partial solar eclipse will cross Hungary in the evening. And once darkness falls, the Perseids will reach their peak — with a new moon creating near-perfect conditions for watching shooting stars. ✨

For many of us, this might bring back memories of August 11, 1999 — the last time a total solar eclipse crossed the country. I was a child then, and I still remember how extraordinary it felt to see the sky change in the middle of the day.

25 years later, we're reminded of something we often experience through Humtour: some of the most beautiful moments happen when we simply slow down and look around — or, in this case, look up.

From the Börzsöny forests to the shores of Lake Balaton, through Őrség and the Mecsek Hills, many of the places where we host our experiences offer wonderfully dark skies away from light pollution, making it perfect to take the time and enjoy the celestial vault.

And looking ahead to 2027, many of the places where our programmes will take you are set in natural landscapes with excellent conditions for enjoying the night sky — whether you're hiking, sharing a meal, tasting local wine or simply taking a moment to look up. 🍷🌌

Just one important reminder for today: never look directly at the Sun during the eclipse without certified solar viewing protection. Sunglasses are not enough. ☀️

And wherever you are tonight, take a moment to look up.

Already so many millstones and memories from Kóspallag! Currently working on new developments for September. More about it soon.

From a small Hungarian village to an international audience…

Some stories begin long before the cameras arrive.

Earlier this year, Kóspallag, Hungary, became the first stop in the People Powered Tourism pilot action series. During the pilot peer review visit, project partners from Slovenia, Ukraine and Hungary, together with tourism experts and influencers, experienced how local knowledge, nature and traditional skills can become the foundation of a sustainable visitor economy.

The pilot, developed by our Hungarian project partner BURST in close cooperation with Humtour, brought us into contact with experiences such as an organic garden, wild mushroom foraging and traditional basket weaving.

And then… the cameras arrived.

Only a few months later, Euronews travelled to Kóspallag as part of its Grand Voyager – Exploring Budapest programme, putting these authentic local experiences in front of an international audience.
The filming was made possible through the close cooperation of BURST, Humtour and the local community — bringing Kóspallag's unique natural and cultural assets to life for viewers far beyond Hungary.

And this is where the story becomes particularly meaningful for People Powered Tourism.

The ambition of the project is not simply to create pilot experiences for the duration of the project. It is to help local communities develop tourism services that they can continue to offer, maintain and further develop themselves after the project comes to an end.

In Kóspallag, this process is already taking shape. Through the continued cooperation of Humtour and local residents, the experiences and values explored through the pilot can remain available to visitors as locally rooted tourism services — creating lasting opportunities for the community.

Because sustainable tourism is not about creating something that ends when a project ends.

It is about creating something that can live on.

And sometimes, one of the most exciting signs that a local story is gaining momentum is when the cameras arrive — and suddenly, a small village has an international audience.

This summer, the signs are hard to ignore.

Repeated heatwaves. Prolonged drought. Record-low water levels on rivers across the region.

For some, these are headlines.

For us as for many people, they are the places where we work and live.

The Danube, where we organise canoe adventures and team-building programmes.

The Börzsöny forests, where we guide mushroom and wild plant foraging walks.

The vineyards of Tokaj, Balaton and other wine regions that welcome our travellers and partners.

The trails, meadows and wetlands that make hiking, wildlife observation and rural experiences possible.

Everything we do starts with these landscapes. Without them, there would be no Humtour experiences.

At Humtour, we believe tourism should contribute to the long-term wellbeing of the places it depends on. Supporting local communities, encouraging slower travel, working with small producers, and helping visitors build a deeper connection with nature are all part of that responsibility.

Let's help make sure that the nature we explore today will still be here tomorrow.

Euronews recently shone a spotlight on Budapest—one of Central Europe's fastest-growing travel destinations—and we were proud to contribute behind the scenes to bring this story to life.

As the local fixer for the production, Humtour supported the Euronews crew with location scouting, logistics, local expertise and on-the-ground coordination, helping them capture the best of Hungary for an international audience.

While Budapest deserves every bit of its growing reputation, we believe it should be the beginning of the journey, not the end.

At Humtour, our mission is to encourage travellers to venture beyond the capital—to the forests of Börzsöny, the vineyards of Tokaj and Balaton, charming rural villages, hidden cultural treasures and the people who make Hungary truly unique. By creating authentic experiences across the country, we hope to help spread the benefits of tourism to local communities while revealing a side of Hungary that many visitors never get to see.

This production also reflects an exciting new chapter for Humtour. Over the past months, we've had the privilege of working with several television crews and journalists, helping them discover and tell Hungary's story through authentic locations and local connections. It's a growing part of what we do, and we're thrilled that more exciting productions and adventures are already on the horizon.

Some places don't simply produce wine—they tell the story of an entire region.

Deep beneath the vineyards of Tokaj lies one of the region's most remarkable wine cellars. Stretching through approximately 1.8 km of underground galleries, the Holdvölgy winery is where centuries of winemaking heritage meet contemporary vision.

Walking through these historic tunnels is more than a cellar visit. Every passage, every bottle and every carefully controlled ageing room reflects the unique character of Tokaj—a landscape shaped by volcanic soils, tradition and generations of passionate winemakers.

As we continue developing our new wine and terroir experiences together with Borett Wines, Holdvölgy naturally became one of the places we wanted to introduce to our guests. Not simply because of its outstanding wines, but because it offers something we value deeply at Humtour: an authentic encounter with the stories, landscapes and people that make Hungarian wine culture so unique.

Our goal isn't just to organize wine tastings. We want to create journeys that connect vineyards, local gastronomy, history and the people behind it.

This is only the beginning of an exciting new chapter.
