🌋 Hegyestű through the eyes of a British journalist

This time, a journalist from the UK’s The i Paper came to discover one of the most extraordinary places in the Balaton Uplands: Hegyestű.

Walking among the monumental basalt columns that reveal the inside of an ancient volcano, visitors are literally surrounded by millions of years of geological history.

Hegyestű and the volcanic heritage of the Bakony–Balaton Geopark have now also provided inspiration for an upcoming British travel article. 🇬🇧

We’re looking forward to seeing how this remarkable place will be portrayed through the eyes of a British journalist.

🍇 Harvest on Kishegy

This time, we had the chance to get a close-up look at harvest time at the Konyári family winery on Kishegy, near Balatonlelle.
From picking the grapes and processing them to the work in the cellar, we followed the first steps of a new vintage. It’s a time when you can truly see the dedication, knowledge and family tradition behind every bottle of wine. 🍷

🍇 A September day on one of Lake Balaton’s most fascinating volcanic hills

As summer slowly gives way to autumn, St. George Hill reveals a very special side of itself.

On 5 September, the St. George Hill MATINÉ returns – a relaxed, all-day event with 16+1 locations opening their doors across the hill. Wander from cellar to cellar, taste local wines and delicious food, enjoy a picnic among the vineyards, listen to acoustic music, or simply find a terrace, slow down and take in the beautiful views across the Balaton Uplands. 🍷🌿

And you can already feel the grape harvest approaching: tractors, harvest crates, ripening grapes and fresh grape must signal the beginning of a new season in the vineyards.

Music, picnics, local wines, special programmes and an entire hill waiting to be explored on foot – with family, friends or as a couple.

💜 In Tihany, lavender is much more than a beautiful purple field – an entire world has grown around it.

Lavender Tihany is a local family business founded in 2019, bringing Tihany’s more than 100-year-old lavender tradition into the present in a modern and creative way.

At the visitor workshop, you can take a look behind the scenes and discover how lavender is transformed into essential oil and then into natural soaps, face and hand creams, body lotions, shower gels and massage oils. The cosmetics are made locally in their own laboratory, while one of the highlights of the visitor centre is its modern lavender distillery.

But the world of Lavender Tihany goes far beyond cosmetics. 💜 You’ll also find lavender-infused mead, rosé wine, craft gin, lavender beer, tonic and syrups among their specialities. Their Lavender Tihany GIN, for example, combines Tihany lavender with Muscat grapes from Badacsony, elderflower from Balatonszőlős and quince from Siófok – bringing together flavours from around Lake Balaton.

A family story, more than a century of tradition, and countless surprising ways to discover one of Tihany’s most iconic scents.
