A taste of Hungary in the heart of Budapest 🍷

Discover Hungarian wines in one of Budapest’s most spectacular historic settings as the 35th Budapest Wine Festival returns to Buda Castle from 9–12 September.

More than 1,000 Hungarian wines and sparkling wines from across the country await visitors, offering a chance to explore Hungary through its wine regions, meet winemakers, discover new favourites and enjoy guided tastings.

And wine is only part of the experience. Hungarian gastronomy, live music, professional talks and tastings add to the atmosphere, making the festival a great way to experience the country’s wine and culinary culture.

Take in breathtaking panoramic views over the Danube and Budapest while enjoying the unique atmosphere of Buda Castle.

A hidden chapter of Budapest’s history ✈️

Did you know that seaplanes once took off from the Danube in the heart of Budapest?

Between 1923 and 1926, the Aeroexpress seaplane station operated at the Buda side of Liberty Bridge, with flights to Lake Balaton and Vienna.

Today, a memorial plaque at the Buda end of Liberty Bridge commemorates the former seaplane station, while Mihály Kolodko, known for his tiny, playful statues around Budapest, has added another reminder of this forgotten chapter.

His new miniature statue, “The Last Flight”, was created to mark the 100th anniversary of the station’s closure.

Budapest is full of these little stories — and Kolodko’s mini statues make discovering them even more fun.

One building. One national celebration. One unforgettable night in Budapest.

Tomorrow, 20 August, Hungary celebrates Saint Stephen’s Day, commemorating the founding of the Hungarian state and honouring Saint Stephen, Hungary’s first king - and there may be no better place to experience it than right here, in the heart of Budapest.

The Hungarian Parliament Building, recently named Europe’s most beautiful architectural landmark, takes centre stage once again. 😍

During the day, the doors of the Parliament open to visitors for a special free Open Day. Guests can step inside one of Budapest’s most iconic buildings and see the magnificent Main Staircase, the Dome Hall and the Holy Crown of Hungary.

Then, as the sun sets, Budapest changes its mood.
The Danube becomes the stage for the evening’s grand finale: the “Game of Fire and Lights” begins at 9 p.m., with fireworks, light projections, lasers and a spectacular drone show stretching along the river. 🎆

And the Parliament itself becomes part of the show, illuminated against the night sky and transformed by light projections.

For visitors, 20 August is more than a fireworks night. It is a chance to experience Hungary at one of its most festive moments, where history, architecture, the Danube and celebration come together.

A perfect evening to discover a different side of Budapest and one worth experiencing from the banks of the Danube.

A glimpse behind the scenes at the Hungarian State Opera House 🎶

We recently visited the Opera House, and it was much more than a beautiful building — it was a journey into the history and social life of 19th-century Budapest.

During our guided tour, we discovered fascinating stories about the people and traditions behind the Opera House. Designed by architect Miklós Ybl, the Opera opened in 1884 and was created with extraordinary attention to both beauty and technology.

In the 19th century, even arriving at the Opera was a social event — the grand staircase was designed as a spectacular space where guests could see and be seen, surrounded by marble, gold, sculptures and frescoes by Károly Lotz.

The Opera was also designed with royalty in mind: Emperor Franz Joseph had his own royal box in the prime position overlooking the auditorium.
There was even a dedicated smoking corridor where gentlemen could smoke and socialise during the intervals.

Inside the auditorium, Lotz’s magnificent ceiling fresco brings the world of Greek mythology to life, while the enormous chandelier was originally lit by gas before being converted to electricity in 1895.
The stage machinery was equally impressive, featuring an advanced hydraulic system that was among the most modern of its time.

And during our guided tour, we were treated to a live opera performance in the grand staircase hall — a beautiful way to experience the Opera House not just as a historic building, but as a living cultural space.

✨There’s always something new to discover in Budapest – even for those of us who call it home.

Our recent team discovery day was a wonderful reminder of how many hidden treasures surround us. It was not only about exploring beautiful places, but also about spending quality time together, sharing stories and enjoying a day away from our usual routines.

We started our day with a visit to the magnificent Hungarian State Opera House, followed by a ride on the Millennium Underground Railway – the oldest continuously operating metro line on the European mainland and a UNESCO World Heritage site.

One of our favourite stops was Városligeti Fasor, a charming, tree-lined avenue known for its beautiful Art Nouveau villas and elegant historic buildings. Walking along the avenue, we discovered the unique atmosphere of these beautifully preserved residences, which reflect the artistic spirit and architectural elegance of turn-of-the-century Budapest.

🍧 On that hot summer day, our ice cream break was more than welcome. We stopped at a charming bistro set in one of the beautifully restored historic villas – now transformed into a stylish event venue – a wonderful example of how Budapest's architectural heritage continues to find new life.

We continued our exploration at the historic Castle Garden Bazaar, followed by a stroll through the Buda Castle District, where we were treated to breathtaking panoramic views over Budapest. 😍

We walked a lot, laughed a lot, and had time to talk, exchange ideas and simply enjoy spending time together outside the office.

Days like these remind us that the best way to recommend a destination is to keep discovering it ourselves. Every beautiful building, hidden street and special view becomes another story we can share with our guests.

🏆 A piece of Hungary’s heritage took centre stage at the Formula 1 Hungarian Grand Prix.

Once again, the official trophies for this year’s race were created by the Herend Porcelain Manufactory, which celebrates its 200th anniversary in 2026.

The podium ceremony at the Hungaroring became a showcase of Hungarian excellence, bringing together the excitement of Formula 1 and the timeless artistry of Herend.

Nearly a year of work went into creating the trophies, with every piece shaped, fired and hand-painted by Herend’s artisans. Inspired by traditional Hungarian folk art, this year’s collection features Herend’s signature ornamentation with gold, platinum and bronze decorative accents corresponding to the first, second and third places.

From world-class sporting events to centuries-old traditions, Hungary continues to share its remarkable stories with the world.

This year, the Hungaroring welcomed a huge international crowd, bringing together passionate fans from around the world for an unforgettable race weekend just 25 minutes from Budapest. A summer walk among roses in Budapest 🌹

The rose season is slowly coming to an end, but there is still time to enjoy one of the city’s most charming summer experiences: a walk surrounded by colours, fragrances and history.

From the romantic Rose Garden on Margaret Island – created in the 19th century and located near the Palatinus Baths – to the elegant gardens of the Buda Castle area, Budapest offers beautiful spots to enjoy these timeless flowers.

At the Várkert Bazár, a beautifully restored neo-Renaissance garden at the foot of Buda Castle, roses meet historic architecture and spectacular Danube views – a perfect stop during a castle district walk.

From 2–5 July 2026, Zsolnay Light Festival turns the historic city of Pécs into a spectacular open-air light gallery for its 10th anniversary edition. ✨

Over four nights, more than 30 light installations, immersive projections and video mapping shows transform streets, squares and cultural landmarks into a continuous visual experience. 😍

This year’s edition pays special tribute to Pécs-born op-art master Victor Vasarely, with optical illusions and the perception of movement, space and light taking centre stage.

Iconic locations such as the Cathedral façade, Széchenyi Square and the Zsolnay Quarter become key stages of the festival’s urban journey.

Just around 2.5–3 hours from Budapest, it is an easily accessible evening programme for groups and cultural travellers looking for something truly distinctive.
