Third time must be a charm. Once more I’m traveling on an ÖBB Nightjet train. I’ll be doing this on board their newest trains I’m my very personal couchette which I’d like to call a cocoon. It’s total privacy once you close the door, but the German federal police overrule that.

Stubborn train door on board the Argo Dwipangga. On board the Argo Dwipangga train from Jakarta to Solo I encountered this stubborn door that didn’t want to open and was playing a game with me. I won though.

We make a somewhat longer stop at Myrhorod station, as it’s the place where trains can overtake each other, or be made to wait for other trains to catch up. Passenger transits are also possible here, as I will find out in a few days when I take the train back to Kyiv from Kharkiv, Ukraine.

It’s time for me to leave Ukraine again, but I’m sure I will be back soon! Today we’re traveling on the Transcarpathian between Kyiv in Ukraine and Budapest in Hungary in a two-person couchette with limited onboard catering, so I stocked up on snacks and the likings before boarding. They do serve coffee on board though, fortunately.

There is a black tube running here along the bridge, across the canal here in Elsloo. It’s for badgers to have a safe crossing because apparently, they don’t like swimming.

Have you ever traveled on board a sleeper train with this type of cocoon, as I like to call it? It's a single person pod with all facilities you need for the trip except restaurant and toilet. Only the German national police will knock, loudly.

Bogie change at Chop, Ukraine. The Transcarpathian sleeper train between Kyiv and Budapest needs a longer stop at the border to change it's wheels between soviet gauge and standard gouge. Fortunately, there are also lengthy border checks to make the wait more bearable. 😉

Intercity plus, Ukraine’s flagship train, runs on several trunk routes between major cities in the country. The trains produced by South Korea’s Hyundai Rotem were brought in to support the Euro 2012 soccer championships held in the country. One of the ten trains was damaged during a drone attack by Russia on August 28, 2025.

They’re handy, extremely common and affordable. Motorcycle taxi’s are everywhere in Indonesia. You can even find them in some more remote villages but are of course mainly where large number of travelers are; in the big cities.
