Sharing some pics of my friend Koming taken at Sunday's Mepeed ceremony in my village.

Mepeed is a traditional Balinese ceremony where women walk in a procession which is usually part of a larger ritual or festival.

The word mepeed actually means 'to walk in a line' or 'to walk as a procession' with the women carrying tall offerings on their heads.

It's a really unique and significant cultural practice
procession that's considered sacred and a communal activity that symbolizes unity, devotion, and the importance of tradition within the community!

A Galungan Day blessing ✨

While Galungan isn't usually a day filled with ceremonies, an afternoon ride through the Gianyar region brought a beautiful surprise.

Families, dressed in their finest traditional attire, sat outside their homes, waiting as a procession made its way down the street, stopping to bless each household.

A beautiful reminder of the soul of community ✨✨

Hari Raya Galungan - Today is Galungan in Bali, full of beauty, spirit & tradition.
A day embracing divine grace and goodness Galungan marks the beginning of Bali's holiest period, spanning ten days. It symbolizes the victory of dharma (righteousness) over adharma (evil) and the return of ancestral spirits to bless the earthly realm. This festival is a testament to the enduring power of goodness and the divine grace that permeates the universe.

One of the most recognizable elements of Galungan is the penjor. These magnificent structures are erected on Penampahan Day, which is the day before Galungan. On this, day the penjors are erected along every street, and almost every home, especially in Bali’s more traditional villages. These bamboo poles hold a lot of symbolism & are decorated with coconut leaves, fruit, colorful paper, or dyed dried palm leaves.

Traditionally every family or community makes their own penjor by hand from bamboo harvested from around their homes. But now in modern times the different elements & decoration pieces that make up a penjor can be bought to attach to the bamboo poles.

Today is a day spent visiting the temples, prayers, and offerings to the gods and ancestors.

Selamat Hari Raya Galungan dan Kuningan . Semoga dharma selalu menang melawan adharma, dan kedamaian senantiasa menyertai kita semua.

About yesterday in Desa Gubug ❤

Tumpek Landep is an important Balinese ceremony held every 210 days to honor metal objects, in particular those made of iron and steel. For a Balinese bladesmith (Pande Besi), this ceremony holds deep significance as it is a time to bless and show gratitude for the tools of the craft and the blades they forge.

For this village in particular Tumpek Landep holds special significance as it is the one of the only villages in Bali where the whole community of over 100 families are all knife makers

For a Balinese bladesmith, Tumpek Landep is a spiritual occasion that acknowledges the sacred essence of metalwork. In Balinese Hindu belief, iron and steel have powerful energies, and their proper forging requires not only skill but also spiritual harmony. The ceremony is a way to ensure that these tools and creations remain strong, sharp, and spiritually pure.

Sacred moments in Bali ✨💙

Immersed in the ancient ritual of Melukat, a traditional Balinese water purification ceremony.

Some of the women on past journeys chose to take part in this beautiful Balinese water cleansing ceremony, a tradition rooted in renewal and intention.

No matter your faith or beliefs, stepping into these sacred waters is a powerful experience—one of reflection, release, and connection.

This is what our journeys are all about—immersing in culture, saying yes to new experiences, and creating memories that stay with you long after the trip ends. Are you ready?
