I will never get bored of sights like this!

Fun Fact: These ladies are carrying an offering called 'Gebogan' which is an offering or pile! Fruit & leaves stacked high on a dulang (that's the gold tray you can see).

This offering shows gratitude and respect for the gods who have blessed the lives of the Balinese people.

Getting lost in the villages around Bali always rewards me 📸

As this year draws to a close, I want to say a heartfelt thank you to every single one of you who has been part of this space 🤍
Whether you’ve followed quietly, popped in with comments or DMs, joined me on a journey, or simply allowed me to share snippets of my life here in Bali, your support has meant more than you know.

2025 has not been without its challenges. For all of us, it’s been a year marked by uncertainty, loss, and moments of real turmoil in the world around us. It’s been impossible not to feel the weight of it at times, and yet, somehow, we keep moving forward.

If there’s one thing I wish for 2026, it’s this: that we are a little kinder to ourselves, and to each other. That we slow down when we need to, extend grace more freely, and remember that we’re all doing the best we can with what we have.

Thank you for being here. I’m so grateful to share this journey with you. Merry Christmas to you all 🎄💕

Here’s to a gentler, more kinder year ahead ✨

Rejang Lilit is a sacred, traditional Balinese dance performed by women as a ritual offering to the gods during religious ceremonies. It is characterized by slow, graceful, and simple movements, and is accompanied by a gamelan orchestra. The dance symbolizes gratitude and serves to honor deities and spirits, enhancing the spiritual atmosphere of the rituals.

Today we went on our yearly pilgrimage to Penglipuran. It's the day before Galungan when everyone does their last minute preparations & the penjors go up.

Galungan is considered one of the most important & festive times of the year on the Balinese calendar.

At its core, Galungan commemorates the triumph of good over evil and reinforces the belief in their perpetual balance.

It's a time for honoring ancestors, who are believed to visit their families during this period.

The tall, decorative bamboo poles called Penjor are a signature symbol of the festival, representing the connection between the earthly and spiritual realms.

Families create intricate offerings called banten and hold ceremonies in their home temples. Feasts are prepared & families spend time together.

The celebration culminates in Kuningan, which occurs 10 days after Galungan and marks the ancestral spirits' departure back to the spiritual world!

Some leave with a smile,
Some leave with a story,
But they all leave with lifetime memories!

Bali, it leaves its mark on your heart forever!

I'm spending some quiet time & a day relaxing as I prepare for a new tour group arriving tomorrow. They're coming in from the US, Canada & France! What a wonderful week we are going to have together. I cannot wait to share the Bali I love with them all 🌺🌴

Sunrise or Sunset?
Both feel like Bali’s magic in different ways ✨

I love the quiet calm of sunrise, when the island is still and the world hasn’t woken yet. But there’s something just as powerful about sunset—the signal that the day is done, yet a new one is just around the corner.

What team are you on, the beginning or the end of the day? ✨

I’ve been sitting recently with a lot of feelings about life in Bali & especially now with the flooding which has been devastating to watch from the safety & comfort of Australia while I visit family & friends here.

Over the past six years, this little island has become my home—through my relationship, my friendships, and my community here. Seeing the community I care about face such hardship makes me, as I often do, think deeply about the precarious balancing act of progress vs. nature on this island.

Balinese philosophy speaks of Tri Hita Karana — harmony between people, nature, and the spiritual. Lately, I can’t help but feel that this balance is being tested. When the rain poured down and the waters rose, it wasn’t just houses or roads being swept away—it feels like a reminder of how fragile that harmony really is. I wonder if Mother Nature is forcing us to pay attention. A reminder that the island is more than an Instagram shot & a backdrop for tourism and development. It’s a living, breathing home. Progress means little to the people if it washes away the nature & soul of the island.

As a foreigner, I know I too may have contributed in part to the changes here. That truth isn’t always comfortable & I think often about the way in which I live here as a Westerner, and how that may be perceived by my friends & neighbours, a community that has welcomed me so graciously. I often reflect on how my permanent presence here affects the island that gives so much to so many. You can't help but feel disillusioned at times about it all. I can only hope that out of this latest challenge comes a renewed sense of care & balance for the island that I feel so lucky to call my home.

But more importantly, above all else my thoughts & prayers are with those that have been adversely affected by the floods đź’—

I'll leave you with this final thought:

'When the balance is broken, eventually we will all feel the weight & when mother nature speaks so loudly, it will become harder not to listen to her'

What a spectacular day it was today! The temperature is just perfect at the moment now that the rain seems to have all but gone!

I ended the day with a walk to the rice field for a pretty little sunset 🧡 The simple joys in life!

Today we spent an inspiring day with John Hardy, the founder of Bambu Indah in Sayan, Ubud. This incredible resort is a shining testament to sustainable design & architecture.

The resort incorporates sustainably produced bamboo into all of its designs & buildings all in harmony with nature. It has natural spring fed pools, stunning accommodation, a fabulous restaurant & cafe situated along the Ayung River.

We also had a first look at the new Crystal Pools across the river which features a mud bath, a sauna heated by fire, a hot pool & cold plunge pools.

Thank you for your invitation & architects tour today... oh & our delicious lunch. terima kasih banyak 🙏
