WARNING: SHOCKING CONTENT. On 12 December 1992, Flores was hit by a devastating magnitude 7.7 earthquake followed by a massive tsunami that swept over the Port and City of Maumere. The death count in 1992 was at least 2,500. Today, 35 years kater, Flores was struck again by an earthquake of AT LEAST equal intensity. The cost in terms of property damage and human casualties is still being calculated. This is a short video showing the effects of the latest earthquake at the Port of Maumere during the berthing process for a PELNI passenger ship. The buildings seen here suffering damage were all built after the 1992 seismic event.
