Ulundanu Bratan Temple

The name Ulun Danu Bratan translates as “the source temple of Lake Bratan.” It was constructed in the 16th century. Many of the shrines were transported to Lake Bratan after the temple’s original location on the slopes of Mount Batur was destroyed by a volcanic eruption. The temple complex features four distinct shrine areas with gates at compass point directions. Lingga Petak is on the shore to the east and has an eleven-tiered Meru tower dedicated to Vishnu and Dewi Danu, as well as a three-tiered Meru tower that has the sacred well. Facing south is a Buddhist stupa with a resident Buddha statue. Ulun Danu Bratan also has some megalithic artifacts — a sarcophagus and stone tablet — which has led to the belief that this was a consecrated site long before the temple was built.

Kintamani Volcano

Located in the central highlands of Bali, Kintamani Volcano is an active volcanic masterpiece that has been astonishing travellers for decades. Surrounded by the incredible and captivating Batur range, the volcano and mountain range are collectively known as Mount Batur.

Tanah Lot Temple is one of Bali’s most important landmarks, which is famed for its unique offshore setting and sunset backdrops. An ancient Hindu shrine perched on top of an outcrop amidst constantly crashing waves; Tanah Lot Temple is simply among Bali’s not-to-be-missed icons.

The onshore site of the Tanah Lot temple complex is dotted with smaller shrines together with visitors’ leisure facilities that comprise restaurants, shops and a cultural park where regular dance performances are shown regularly. The temple is located in the Beraban village of the Tabanan regency, an approximate 20km north-west of Kuta. It is often included on sightseeing and cultural tours to Bali’s western and central regions.

The Jatiluwih rice terraces in the namesake upland village in West Bali are most famous for their dramatic and exotic landscapes. The cool highlands and the breathtaking scenery of this village at the foot of Mount Batukaru makes for wonderful photo opportunities, and serves as a soothing retreat away from the island’s crowded south.

Once a UNESCO Cultural Heritage Site candidate, the Jatiluwih rice terraces comprise over 600 hectares of rice fields that follow the flowing topography of the Batukaru mountain range. These are maintained by a traditional water management cooperative known as subak, which dates back to the 9th century. The cooperative itself eventually won recognition as a dominant factor in Bali’s ‘cultural landscape’ entry on the heritage list.
