Ganesha, also known as Ganapati, is a widely revered deity in the Hindu pantheon. In Bali, he is seen as the god of wisdom and good fortune and is often invoked at the beginning of important rituals and ceremonies. Ganesha is typically depicted with the head of an elephant and a human body and is often shown holding various objects, such as a lotus flower or a bowl of sweets. He is also associated with the rat, which is seen as his vehicle or mount. In Bali, Ganesha is considered to be the son of Shiva and Parvati and is one of the most popular gods in the island's Hindu-Balinese pantheon.

Nyepi or The silent day, the Balinese New Year would not be complete without Ogoh-ogoh. It is a huge statue with a fierce and frightening appearance representing Bhuta Kala, a bad giant character who symbolizes all bad things in humans.

The word ogoh-ogoh comes from the local language ogah-ogah which literally means to be shaken. It was because of the way they carried these things on their shoulders while being paraded. More than ten people will be needed to carry one giant ogoh-ogoh.

Ogoh-ogoh are mainly made of wood, bamboo and paper which are then carved and painted in such a way. In this modern era, people will only use Styrofoam or foam to make it look smoother. Some will use some recyclables to reduce waste.

The ogoh ogoh parade is held one day before Nyepi Day and is known as Ngrupuk. After being paraded around the villages, each ogoh-ogoh will be burned to ashes in the cemetery or yard as a symbol of purification.

TEMPLE FESTIVAL IN UBUD

Temple festivals are held on the anniversary of when the temple was dedicated. It can last for three days or even longer. The Balinese honor the deities who rule the temple by giving them a myriad of offerings, performances of vocal music, dance and gamelan music. They invited them to come down from their residence on Mount Agung to take part in the activities. The temple is decorated in colorful golden cloths and beautiful ornaments.
The items are usually used for this ceremony are umbrellas, Penjor (a bamboo decorated by young coconut leaf), flags, Umbul โ€“ umbul (pennant) and more. It has a great philosophical meaning which reminds us of where we came from and for the balance of the universe.

Have you heard the wonders of Belitung beaches?

The word Belitung is taken from the local language which means sea snail. Belitung is surrounded by more than 100 islands and most of them are uninhabited and dotted with white sand and granite rocks. The residents are mostly ethnic Malays who live in coastal areas and are very familiar with rich marine products such as fish. The wealth of the sea is a source of livelihood here.

The pristine white sand beach overlooks the turquoise sea filled with incredible snorkelling and fantastic views of the offshore islands such as the clear blue waters and rocky shores of Tanjung Kalayang or Tanjung Tinggi beach, Pulau Burung and the 129 year old lighthouse house of galangal island.

Have a fabously diverse vacation and add these best places to visit in Belitung to your bucket list ๐Ÿคฉ
