MAHODAYA – formerly named “Amanikan” – is an authentic phinisi vessel constructed by master wooden boat builders of eastern Indonesia. Their highly-skilled craftsmanship and unique artistry have earned them recognition from UNESCO, which has designated phinisi boats as “Masterpieces” of traditional Indonesian culture and heritage.
MAHODAYA’s elegantly appointed interiors were created by the late Jaya Ibrahim, renowned designer of some of the world’s leading properties.
All MAHODAYA Luxury Yacht renovations and upgrades were carried out by the original design team and wood workers who retain a deep attachment to the vessel.
Construction was first commissioned by Adrian Zecha, the founder of Regent Hotels, Rafael Hotels, Amanresorts, and the new and notable Azerai Resorts.
The vessel was built in 2009, and since then has voyaged extensively throughout the Indonesian archipelago under the “Amanikan” name, playing host to so many prominent international visitors.
Now independent, the ship’s name has been changed to Mahodaya, a Sanskrit word meaning “great fortune or prosperity”.

Diving in the Banda Sea allows for many opportunities to encounter rare and unique organisms. This weedy scorpionfish was found in Ambon Bay, though their range is throughout the tropical seas. A member of the scorpionfish family, like their relatives they are ambush predators that most often feed at night.

We never tire of the very best of views, and we're not ashamed to admit this is a beach that features heavily in our images. Kalig beach in the Misool area of Raja Ampat has everything you could ever dream about. It's a private beach, has the finest of powder white sand, in the water there's only the clearest sand making it perfect for rinsing off. Complete with young coconut trees fringing the high tide line and a breathtaking viewpoint from the corner, this is a beach you'll be in no hurry to leave.

The waters that flow through the Komodo National Park are diverse and full of life and colour. Green and Hawksbill turtles can be found in various location, such as this individual we found in the shallows at Tattawa.

Nutrient rich waters flow north from the Indian Ocean, with the many shallow channels around Komodo allowing coral growth and enabling a spectacular feeding frenzy which manifests itself as an explosion of colour and diversity, with a huge number of hard and soft coral species to be found.

From May onwards the dry season begins and so too does our Komodo season. Starting from Labuan Bajo, the Komodo National Park is but a short sail away, and unique encounters await. Trekking on the islands of Rinca and Komodo offer opportunities to see various species such as the fabled Komodo dragon, buffalo, deer and monkeys in their natural habitat.

Having walked amongst dragons many further activities await, from the famous sunrise / sunset trek on Padar to various beaches and a huge number of possibilities with in water activities such as scuba diving and snorkeling.
